Why are sci fi movie so lazy about how their technology work?

Why are sci fi movie so lazy about how their technology work?

Why do people on this site like to pretend they are smarter than they are?

cause that shit ain't real

>explain using real science how technology that doesn't exist within known science would work

Because audiences have trouble buying magic in a modern or futuristic setting so the hack penny writers who created the scifi genre just replaced magic with technobabble and widgets.

because they conceptualize of intelligence as a kind of status, which you demonstrate by scoring points against other people, not what it actually is: a very large array of largely separate specialist cognitive skills. see: IQ posters.

What if we reversed the polarity ?

I mean like 50% of the time they dont even explain it, it just works

Star Trek uses nanomachines and quantum shit as one off episode obstacles not fundamental mechanics

There is literally no good reason why nanomachines can't exist

>DON'T NOTICE THINGS!

Why do you want a bunch of english lit majors to explain magical bullshit to you?

>but you see if you poke the pen THROUGH the paper or "time/space" in this instance you can travel from one side to the other instantaneously by making your own passage, or "wormhole".
>simply put.

perfect use of technobabble

The more shit you pull out of the ass to cover inconsistencies, the less is suspension of disbelief.

i hate grey goo scenarios ever since that gargoyles cartoon episode

Ameritards...

Star Trek did it for the first 25 years or so. That's a major difference between hard sci fi like Trek and faggy "science fantasy" like Star Wars.

People who think the Matrix making people into batteries is dumb are right.

Anyone who thinks that matter to the quality of the movie is dumb

OST was closer to science fantasy. memory is foggy but pretty sure they fight a demon that was jack the ripper at one point

It mattered to me. That part was so dumb it infuriated me.

Do you get therapy for your autism?

Do you mean TOS? "Wolf in the Fold" wasn't about a demon. It was about an energy being. The process of discovering that was quite scientific. There are no "science fantasy" elements in Trek prior to DS9.

>expecting a movie to not be utterly retarded is autistic
lol

fuck i did, OST is original sound track.

Buddy.
it was a space ghost that was jack the ripper. explain how it was different to midichlorians

>Buddy.
>it was a space ghost that was jack the ripper. explain how it was different to midichlorians
Go watch the episode. It was just an energy being.

you know that bit in Jurassic Park where the Trex comes out of a paddock that clearly has ground level with the road
But then they have to go down like 10 metres on a wire to get into the paddock?

Energy beings are space magic mate.

>hard sci fi
>trek
lmao you are delusional. star trek basically coined the "nonsense technobabble" trope. they never explained how any of their technology worked in detail and they didnt need to. back then it was dilithium crystals and field polarity, now its nano machines and quantum mechanics

Hard sci-fi isnt intrinsically better than soft sci-fi.

Because I think that if you need to explain scifi things logically and in details with science you'd immediately find that even the most scifi concepts wouldn't work at all for X or Y reason. You'll always find a "what if" that'd broke your explanation.

For example, with what we now know about space-time and the universe, I find it impossible to come with ideas of alternate dimensions or other worlds in a manner that makes sense if I wanted something different than an entirely new universe with stars and shit.

It's not that we don't, we do notice it, we just don't care and suspended our disbelief for the sake of a dumb movie plot.

MY MAGNETS!

love

>There are no "science fantasy" elements in Trek prior to DS9.

you've failed the greatest test of them all
but seriously tng is filled with non explainable science and just whoa it's space magic all the time

I had to explain to a friend's mom that quantum mechanics is not magic and quantum healing doesnt work.
I blame movies that treat it like magic.

Actually watch TOS you nigger retard

Nano tech and quantum shit is just the current thing to convince the normies, who are ignorant of the actual concepts, of the validity of whatever premise the movie is presenting. That guy can fly? Quantum. That dude can regenerate? Nanites. That guy can teleport through the planet? Quantum infused nanites.

The old thing used to be radiation. Basically the current thing is always a mystical force that you cant see that can do anything. And the audience is usually vaguely aware of what it can actually do.

laziness,you answered your own question
Same reason why plot armor and plot convenience are things

they aren't pretending, they just lack the self-awareness.

>OP asks a question about ideas
>insecure faggot makes it about people drama

that's not technobabble, that's literally stephen hawking's illustration from a brief history of time.

getting infuriated over minor things is a hallmark of autism.

>quantum healing
wat

Probably because the consequences of some societal changes or insane technologies existing are generally much more interesting than the technicalities of how exactly something that obviously doesn't exist would work.

Sci-fi is just a terrible name
What they really should've called the genre is futuristic fantasy, Fu-Fa for short

the infuriating part is, they could have go with some variety of the "you use only 10% of your brain" meme (rest is taken over by machines for computing power)
or they use your brain power when you're sleeping
or they need humans for RNG/imagination/whatever bullshit

anything is better than the perpetum mobile batteries

yea but we can't imply things will change anymore. everything has to be exactly the same except with [technology that would trigger a complete paradigm shift if it existed] replacing bandaids.

if they had gone that direction, there'd be EVEN MORE people, and not just autistic people, screaming things like
>how am brain better than computer computer so fast brain is brain???

not to mention how impossible it would be to explain distributed computing to 90s hollywood executives.

>guys why aren't soft sci fi settings hard-core sci fi
Because they weren't meant to be op you fucking retard
>op asks a reddit tier question
>gets called out
>you rush forward to also be retarded
Little brainlet

And you continued like a bitch why...?

It's literally the exact opposite of that. E.g., long-distance travel under known constraints is insanely much more interesting than muh wormhole/ftl/teleportation/whatever.

The problem with sci-fi movies is that MOVIE audiences are retards who don't care about sci-fi, they just want explosions in space. Or, if they think themselves super high-brow, they want people looking sad and dour in space. But they don't actually care about the "space" part. They care about the sad explosions.

Only right post

Are you fucking stupid? Do you want writers to literally develop the science and invent the technology to make the fantastic things in their fiction real? It's fiction for a reason you dumb fuck.

>doesn't know soft vs hard-core tropes
>on a media board
>calls other people retarded
Cringe. Calm down spergo.

Yes, why do you?

>long-distance travel under known constraints is insanely much more interesting than muh wormhole/ftl/teleportation/whatever
I don't see how does that contradict what I said, you can have constraints without going into detail trying to explain the exact build of an engine that doesn't exist.

Because when someone calls you out you can just close the thread and never think about it again? Are you stupid?

>The problem with sci-fi movies is that MOVIE audiences are retards who don't care about sci-fi, they just want explosions in space. Or, if they think themselves super high-brow, they want people looking sad and dour in space.
you're literally retarded and know little of the genre. you just want the film to explain physics instead of tell a story

jesus that was cringy and you proved his point
no upvotes for you

I'm saying all sci-"fi" movies are so soft as to not be "fi" but "fa".

You don't see how mcguffins introduced to remove all the interesting aspects of solving a given problem makes things less interesting? Literally the whole point of something like FTL is to not have to figure out how to get from A to B because getting from A to B is too difficult to figure out for the author, because the author doesn't care about the subject he's writing about.

who called him out before he posted....? he was the second poster retard
>another dipshit proving his point

Finner

>I'm saying all sci-"fi" movies are so soft as to not be "fi" but "fa"
Then stop watching shit sci fi or read a physics book while you watch your shit sci fi.

>you want your sci-fi to be about sci-fi? you're literally retarded
coping IFLS larper

You should post this more often it really stirred up butthurt from contrarian nerds.
Basically yeah, that's what op is boiling this down to.

Yeah, I don't watch "sci-fi", because it's all retarded shit for redditors.

>writing random shit means I'm a smart oldfag
Try to be more retarded

Nah, don't praise me, the point was already proven by him, I just pointed it out. But thanks for confiming it.

Yeah, I think the more hard sci-fi pondering non-FTL etc. cannot be put on screen (in Hollywood). It is just too hard to make it interesting in movie format.

>I'm PROUD of being a moron
thanks, but it's not as you hadn't made that clear enough already

>more cringey posting
>"I'm right my mom said so!"
he really triggered you with that post didn't he?

user why are you trying to sound smarter than you are? Is it low self-esteem?

You did it bro, you managed to sound even more retarded. Bring up more reddit tier websites you browse because you're butthurt and off topic.

did you just learn how to greentext or are you mad?

no need for more shitposting fags this thread is already a shitpost, op sucks and the second post triggered a bunch of nerds

Because the really good sci-fi(at least outside of speculative fiction that primarily builds its settings by extrapolating extant technology) isn't concerned with justifying the tech/science. It's about how such tech would impact the culture in general as well as the characters.
