producers don't care about losing the British market as much as they care about losing the American market. There are a few cases where they allow a british actor to play an american, even though they don't have a convincing accent. It's only cause their star-power, and other assets, are the entire driving force behind the movie's success.

American accent is closer to the original English accent so it's easier to mimic. All other English accents have only been around for about 150 years.

Euros, like the rest of the world, grow up with American media. Actors who want to go to Hollywood likely start to pay special attention to the weird idiosyncratic qualities of the American accent. There is also more leeway given to English actors because we assume everyone who works in Hollywood is from America unless told otherwise.
