I watched this for the first time on the Yea Forums stream a few weeks back and I can't believe how overhated this movie is, like after all these years THIS was what everyone was complaining about?

Plus the costume design and setting completely humiliate the 2012 film. The 2012 film looks like a halo fanfilm shot in a backyard by comparison.

The scene in Resident Evil where Wesker shows the Tyrant to Chris is taken almost shot for shot from the part where Rico shows the clone things to Dredd. The cover art is practically traced from a promo shot of Dredd with a shotgun too.

It's actually a really good dredd movie and if he didn't take off the helmet there'd be literally nothing to complain about.

Honestly after watching both movies and reading some of the comics the 1995 movie gets the tone of the comic better than than Dredd does even though as a movie Dredd is better made.

I don't think I've ever really came across a bad Dredd story. I haven't checked out the full series but what I have decided to just, randomly read on a whim tends to be pretty damn great.
And from what I've heard the biggest complaint about old Dredd is that he takes his helmet off, while New Dredd I've only heard praise for.
Is there even such a thing as an unironically terrible Dredd story?

The studio (WB?) who made the Judge Dredd movie believed that since they had paid for Sylvester Stallone to be the lead character in the film, then they should show his face. The fans were furious since Dredd only removes his helmet to sleep when in his sleep-pod in the comics. The backlash resulted in the studio insisting Dredd keep his helmet off for most of the duration of the movie. This annoyed the fans to no end - who then refused to buy the lucrative merchandise.

FUN FACT: The ABC Warrior Robot was built as an expensive full-scale prop before the studio realized they didn't have the rights to use the character (which has its own series of comics within the Dredd/2000AD universe). They were then forced to shell out another fortune to secure permission to use that one robot in the movie.
