Methods of sacrifice

Two different theories were proposed for the way retainers were sacrificed. It's a little more complicated than that.
The protagonist honestly didn't care that much about the welfare of the other slaves and captives. The rescue of the tied up girl had more to do with killing one of the priests + tying up the other to create a grisly murder scene and break down the morale of his uncle, the primary target of his revenge.
The parts of the movie where he just fucks with the mind of his uncle and sows chaos and mistrust among the farm are the best parts of the movie.
