No it's because white and grey makes a room seem bigger and open and darker colors make rooms feels smaller. Aesthetically it's also reminiscent of Apple products to many.

But it's mainly a design choice made so people can try to make their tiny 100 sqft apartment that they pay 1200 a month for seem less like a cupboard.
