I've attempted to watch Stalker three times and fallen asleep immediately once they entered The Zone every time.
I've attempted to watch Stalker three times and fallen asleep immediately once they entered The Zone every time
Same. Pity because looks amazing.
I sat through all of it without dozing or looking away once, but I was so bored that I don't remember anything
OMG TELEPHONE POLES ARE JUST LIKE CROSSES
I HECKIN LOVE SYMBOLOGY
I always put on space movies when I want to doze off but I think I might give this a try. Not many sleepkinos out there.
Sounds like you zoned out.
I never even got that far.
I'm going to stab you
Everyone in this thread are imbeciles and you got filtered hard
The stalker games are based off a film? Fuck i didnt know that
Lol nigga, just watch it in two sittings man, like lol, fuck are you autistic!
They're all based off or influenced by a Russian book called Roadside Picnic.
If space movies are your insomnia cure, try Solaris. That movie will probably knock you out through sheer boredom
Which blows this shitty overrated filmschooler's favorite flick out of the water completely
Just skip the part at the beginning and when the character got shot into space
Yeah, but even then it's still a slog to read through until they get to the Zone. Honestly starting to think all Russian books are like that.
Its boring and badly paced, it has the makings of a film in it but you'd have to cut about 1 hour of pointless shots of nature
memes aside I can see a normie falling asleep by the time they get there, that whole first half is hypnotic and mesmerising
for me anyway it wakes me up cause it's when interesting shit starts happening. well, nothing happens, but the dialogue is masterful
Tarkovsy is a hack, people just pretend to like his films because they want to appear sophisticated but in reality they know nothing ever happens in the films
I thought the only part that came close to being a slog was the middle part while red was in prison that focuses on the other guy. still though it was a pretty short book and didnt drag on too long
You have narcolepsy bro. They have good amphetamines for that. It is the best to view on a 3 day no sleep binge after all
This.
Mirror, Stalker and Rublev are absolute kino.
Fucking redditeurs
I read the book but haven't watched the film. I hear they removed most of the really weird stuff about the Zone and its impact anyway.
angelopoulos > tarkovsky
remake withoiut famous actors when
i think it's a movie to be watched in the cinemaplex.
i had the same problem with 2001: a space odyssey.
The book was cool. Didn't know they made a movie.
the film doesn't show any anomalies or any sort of phenomena at all, they literally just walk around. there is one scene where they try to communicate that something is happening but dont actually show anything.
yeah the movie is just three Yea Forumstards walking around spewing babble and getting emotional for 2 hours
but that's when it gets good
Fucking based and kekpilled
This just in, ADHD is everywhere
>favorite
American, opinion invalid. Log off faggot you're time was earlier this morning.
I like his films because they have unique ideas communicated through a visual language. My favourite movie of all time is White Chicks, I do not give a shit about sophiscation I just like films that have interesting things to say.
watching paint dry isnt interesting
there was absolutely no reason for the movie to drag every scene on by 300% for more screentime
I think there's a few different translations. The original translation is a bit more of a slog to read, and the 2012 translation is a bit more zoomer friendly.
You still have to be comfortable reading schizotexts though
I fall asleep to 2001SO. It’s too quiet and serene
I enjoyed this in my "I am watching slow boring movies to look good days". I just hate how ambiguous all of it is, also shitty Christianity subtext which is also left ambiguous. Sad they all died from radioactive poison to film this trite. A good boring movie is something like a russian with love, Once Upon a Time in the West.
>I am watching slow boring movies to look good days
wtf does that mean?
Dead man's letters is the true soviet postapocalyptic kino. Watch that instead
I wanted to brag, show how cultured I was by watching silent movies or new wave french etc. Some were decent but most were just boring for boring sake. I am a simple man I like my boring movies to have a plot and characters I like, I hate blade runner but I would rather that than another french movie with depressed handsome man in trenchcoat walks around the city for the hundredth time. Ironic since blade runner is depressed man, walks around city.
oh its because your uncultured which means you have no idea what you are watching because you like all children these days live in a bubble, its ok, at least you tried and tahts a good thing
Yes I am uncultured and stupid and you are cultured and intelligent, like all your reddit friends. You type really are a diamond dozen. A rare breed indeed.
>reddit
lol, again at least you tried, no that cess pool can go fuck itself just like you tourist
I haven't been able to finish Valhalla Rising yet.
thats because you are under-aged, its not for you, how do you not get that? your brains are not fully formed
Oh I'm sorry not reddit, that is obviously not hip enough for you. No, like your /film/ friends, that's what I meant. How I envy your sub 60 iq club.
ADD zoomers should take the Tark pill daily
>The psychological effect of slow cinema’s “long take” is unlike any other film technique. Film techniques are about “getting there”—telling a story, explaining an action, evoking an emotion—whereas the long take is about “being there.” Julian Jason Haladyn in Boredom and Art compares the effect of the long take to a train journey, an early symbol of modernity. The train journey places emphasis on expectation rather than presence. The traveler’s mind is focused on the destination, not where he or she is here and now. Travelers can’t appreciate being in the present because their perception of time and space is constantly shifting. Motion pictures, like modernity itself, embraced this constant flux. Slow cinema, specifically the long take, sought to reverse the headlong impetus of technology in favor of the present. Andrei Tarkovsky stands at the fulcrum of an aesthetic paradigm shift. His earlier films, Ivan’s Childhood (1962) and Andrei Rublev (1966),although slow-paced and replete with associative imagery, adhered to chronological narrative. As he evolved as an artist, Tarkovsky realized that what he was really after was more akin to boredom (my choice of word, not Tarkovsky’s) than slowness. He called it “time pressure. ”Toward the end of his life (he died at age 54) Tarkovsky organized his thoughts in a book appropriately titled Sculpting in Time. “The cinema image,” he wrote, “is the observation of a phenomenon passing through time. Time becomes the very foundation of cinema. Time exerts a pressure which runs through the shot. Just as a quivering reed can tell you about the current or water pressure of a river, in the same way we know the movement of time as it flows through the shot.”
>using a diamond dozen
>calling someone else reddit, when using fake phrases to try and catch people out
>thinking reddit has any idea of what culture or art is outside of Marvel movies and whatever's trending on social media
You're an absolute faggot that can't even use trite properly in a sentence. Don't blame other people for your own ignorance and blindness. It's really not hard to appreciate art, so long as you employ a degree of critical thinking. Fucking mong.
It's ok OP. Stick to Marvel and DC and Star Wars. Those are products more suited to your average attention span. Enjoy!
>thinks there is any difference between reddit and Yea Forums
Try making a post on r/truefilm calling Tarkovsky a hack, instant 100 downvotes fly towards you before you know what's what.
>It's really not hard to appreciate art, so long as you employ a degree of critical thinking.
Ahahahahahhahahhhahahaha some /film/ fag talking about critical thinking. I think that's called an oxy something.
your trying too hard
How else would I be able to keep up with people so much smarter than me, you know, like you.
but you aren't keeping up not at all ask your programmer to try harder
>sacrifice your friend's son Arthur to get to the golden ball
>he's a weird wish-baby created by the zone anyway, so he's barely human, right?
>he runs into the meat grinder screaming some crazy utopian clap-trap about everyone being happy and satisfied... is this what the Zone thinks humanity wants or needs? Or is this just what the Zone thinks humans think they want...
>he explodes into a cloud of gore, disarming the trap for a while
>you reach the wish granter, just a dusty old bronze ball.
>you can't think of a damned thing to say so you repeat what the kid said, everyone being happy, no one leaving unsatisfied, you quote him verbatim with tears in your eyes like you're confessing for every mistake and sin you've ever committed
>you sacrifice your wish to give Arthur his wish back... which might by the Zone's wish for itself
g-good?
stalker is overrated trash
So in 1 post you're telling me I'm trying too hard and in the next one you tell me I got to try harder. I'm not sure you even know what the fuck you're talking about. Gotta be those 60 iqs rubbing themselves together again eh?
I'll bite. You have to be from a country/culture with a sovl to understand it. The West (the ANZAC/Canada/US specifically) are countries where capitalism destroyed any semblance sovl.
I'm past my 20s now, and I find myself gravitating towards late-Soviet/Euro films.
Hollywood, save for very few examples of authentic earnest filmmaking, is unwatchable.
try reading the book, it's called "roadside picnic." it's quite different than the movie. the book is more entertaining, but the movie is the more 'artistic' piece
I know your coding is very basic this makes you confused by human interaction, as I said consult your programmer
you mean they still have the ability to concentrate on something for more than 5 min ?
