Rings of Power costs $58m per episode

Thoughts? GOT S8 was $15m per episode in comparison

Amazon is a trillion-dollar company. They can handle it.

>still including the cost of buying the rights in the budget

le sigh

I serioulsy don't understand how all these new shows can have bigger budgets than GOT and look 10 times worse

Someone at Amazon has to be sweating bullets about this, right? Or does Bezos just not care losing money as long as he can nerdgasm to this?

It's just money laundering at this point, how can it be 58m per episode and have worst CGI then movies made years ago on a quarter of that budget

It will end up as a failure just like WOT because they simply do not respect the source material.

>look 10 times worse
what about GOT s8 looked x10 better?

41% of that is a woke tax

>50M per episode budget
>still looks like a PS2 game
Bezos is a hack

that makes a lot more sense. actually spending $58m/episode would be impossible otherwise. You'd literally have to cast like 50 of the top actors to each play a main character forcing the runtime of an episode to 10 hours each

WASN'T 80-100 MILLIONS PER EPISODE? WHERE DID ALL THE REST OF THE MONEY GO?

Attached: RubbingHands.jpg (337x383, 15.57K)

>50 mil/ep
where did the money go?

I doubt he cares, it isn't like Netflix that's an independent company that actually feels the effect of flops.
Amazon Prime can put out as many woke flops as they want, lie about the viewing figures and then use the enormous wealth generated by Amazon itself to cover the losses.

it's kind of crazy that netflix and amazon throw so much money around and their shows still look only maybe 2 or 3 steps removed from telenovellas

I'm not sure if he really understands the nature of the challenge his team has undertaken. he's used to making technical systems work more efficiently, not being a producer making art.

If when we see a full trailer there's still no obvious plot hook and it's all "remember-this", then it's time to really start to expect a disaster.

Attached: bezos storytelling methodology.jpg (2018x1822, 366.27K)

Amazon bought MGM for $8.5 billion, that's a MUCH better deal than buying and pissing away LOTR IP.

Don't know what the fuck Apple is doing, now that Netflix is collapsing they should be making some serious moves, all they've produced so far has been mediocre to shit.

Hire a couple Amish families and they could build practical sets for that kind of money.

its not getting a second season so it makes sense

WOT is probably the worst fantasy adaption I've ever seen, and that's saying something.

yeah lol if only the WoT showrunners had respected the incredible literature of Robert Jordan.

It's always remarkable the diligence and creativity with which people will suck someone's cock if they're filthy rich

trailers typically have provisional first-pass CGI, and the pipeline is currently overloaded as fuck.

ordinarily I'd say you seem like massive plebs for caring about CGI this much, but we have almost no info about the story so I guess it's all there is to go on.

Either this will be the biggest failure of all time or it will just be a minor hit. No other option.

Them Kangs got paid

Don't care.
Only cucks are into LotR.

this looks bad because of the defiance of physics, not the rendering. it's uncanny valley, we know she shouldn't be able to move like that.

With the amount of money they've spent on the rights and production so far it'll be getting at least 3 or 4 seasons, regardless of whether a single person watches it.
It's sunk cost at this point and Amazon are rich enough to take the hit if it fails, but with the money they've put in they'll ensure it isn't a one-season flop even if it performs terribly.

>we are laundering some major cash and don't even car who knows it
arrogance at its peak

Amazon WoT was also retarded expensive, but was still probably the worst thing I've ever seen in my entire life. Just watching millions of dollaridoos buring up on the screen yet the script feels as if reading WoT fanfiction written by a 14 year old girl.

So why does the trailer look so bad? And I'm not just talking about the cringey woke casting but everything looks cheap

>Apple is doing, now that Netflix is collapsing they should be making some serious moves, all they've produced so far has been mediocre to shit.

the bottleneck in the entertainment industry is ideas, not money. simple as.

I agree it will get a second season because "SEE LOOK PEOPLE LIKED IT YOU CHUD" then quietly be cancelled. Money doesn't even matter anymore

That's some pretty expensive fan fiction.

It'll be expensive shit

elves are lithe but you are right this isnt mechanically sound movement elves are light they cannot perform anti gravity maneuvers

are you really this dumb that you think a real actress jumping up a set is cg?

WoT only cost $80 million in total, that's less expensive than GoT and not in remotely the same league as LOTR.

That's just bezos embezzling amazon cash.

Attached: 1646736005634.jpg (329x345, 14.11K)

Money laundering.

I don't care about cgi but since that's all the current media offers/cares about there isn't much else to comment on. 58m per episode for cgi that looks worse than ps3 video games is obviously kike shit and you don't have to be /pol/ to understand that

They have already okay'd 5 seasons worth. Which means the head of the studios have already agreed to it regardless of its performance.

>> art is formulaic consumers heres how to cook up some (((kino))) you fuckin onions

If I had a dollar

I think it will be better than hobbit movies but not by much.

Why would Amazon need to launder cash?

WoT was less expensive than The Witcher, it was really a mid budget production and not even close to the same league as Rings of Power

$80 million and not a penny of it spent on good scriptwriters.

it does, the CGI artists couldn't even get the trees right in the trailers for this. Wasn't the tech for the dragons pretty revolutionary too?

not him, but GoT created a context and plot where the CGI didn't neeed to be perfect, you could buy into it. currently this only has "remember lord of the rings???"

if the story works everyone will forget they're even watching CGI, just like with any good movie or TV show. but its a big if.

10 times? 10 fuckin times?

lol, what a load of shit, first you already have this sort of shit broken down, any basic storyteller knows that there are archetypes to storytelling. And second, you can't just say shit like "compelling villain", that like says the secret to a good story is the story being good.
And fucking hell, "positive emotions", "negative emotions", haha, what a retard to think that any of these conclusions are helpful in any way

I mean, that rarely happens. Usually studios agree 1 season ahead, that way if current season fails they can cancel 3rd season. With this they went all out and banked on 5 seasons from the drop.

Looks like a Scottish Widows ad, kek.

this show better be crawling through the tv and suckin ma dick at that price boyyy KNOW WHAT IM SAYIN??

didn't they spend 500 million or whatever to the rights alone?
considering that modern tv shows are like 10 episodes for season.
that's 50 million for one episode.
so duh it costs more than 50 million per episode because you have to pay for the actors and food

what tomb raider game is this?

I won't watch a single episode.

Its like people new to writing adding adverbs to every sentence. Yes those things are good, but there needs to be moderation and artfulness in applying them, otherwise its going to be fucking painful.

since when have Scottish Widow ads have Iranian actresses in New Zealand?

yes look at the CGI in the trailers, its not finished.
I have no idea how this shit will get 5 seasons off a poem, they are going to butcher the lore so hard kek

>Scottish Widows
God I want to fuck the woman in that ad

The current one is a spic from the states, more or less the same shade as Iranian.
instagram.com/ambermartinezx/?hl=en

Some scammer is making so much fucking money off this thing.

bro is this elden ring?

300 mil for rights
Also the money invested in first season includes expensive things like set pieces (bigatures/props), costume design. All of this is extremely pricey but the good thing is they can re-use it for future seasons. So expect season 2 to cost less than season 1.

This is going to be so awful lmao

The Polar Express sequel is looking good

Of course they can but a 600 million dollars failure is worse than everything because you invested all that money in garbage kek

I'm already drafting my apology letter.

58 million dollarydoos, yet 0 soul. Sad.

Attached: 1461620816008.jpg (1280x853, 257.52K)

Its not a poem. The appendices of LOTr os a gold mine for lore, and contains events from all 3 ages, its just briefly goes over it.

Attached: 1645546408981.jpg (3554x5331, 2.44M)

The movement is really stilted. She should swing to the side she's jumping to.

>no bro, it'll look BETTER in the final products than the promotional material
Does this EVER happen? Closest I can think of is that sonic movie but they just changed the design instead of touching up the existing one

lol no

>Not a single main character that is black
These movies could have been so great. The Hobbit book is my favourite of Tolkien's, but these films captured none of the gleeful essence of the original.

Attached: 1644543771179.jpg (1022x635, 228.33K)

yes of course it does. anyway point was that it's what ever the whole thing costs. not actual single episode. if you get what i mean.
i can guarantee that people think that they used 50 million to shoot an episode and don't consider anything else in the good old clickbait fashion.

>Cannot unsee

Lel

shes jumping on a wire and you're viewing it from overhead so it's not a natural viewpoint
idk why so many people struggle with this one short clip

you could feed the starving africans with that..how dare you

Morfydd Clark as Galadriel will be the least of the shows problems. She's a good actress.

Attached: 1622999851186.webm (604x850, 1.87M)

you do know that this is completely practical, right?

errr... based?

Attached: 1644703229116.webm (1280x533, 3M)

Probably because it looks very bad and unnatural.

How did they get away with casting a pale white girl?

Her acting can't save a shitty character.

This has all the hallmarks of a 'strong independent woman who is better than all men at everything' going by the synopsis.

It has never worked even when going for a female audience, and at this point people are so insanely tired of it.

>Kill star wars
>Doctor who
>Wot
Now LOTR. Is their anything they haven't obliterated?

her love interest will have a dark complexion, that's the trade off

they could have been QUITE GOOD.

a lot of the Hobbit is mostly good because of how its written rather than what happens. it's not like LOTR where the narrative is the draw.

probably a TV show would have suited the material best, but of course instead we're getting this.

Why would Amazon need to spend 50 MILLION dollars on a per single one-hour tv show episode

Most of the cast is still white, regardless of the carefully handpicked cast pictures you've seen posted on here.

Does she have any other notable body of work aside from Saint Maud?

Attached: fat.webm (800x800, 3M)

I kinda want everyone to be black, asian, mexican. From the stand point of comedy it'd do far better to differentiate the original LOTR from whatever this will be. We need these people brought to light

that's okay, I'm funding this with my prime fees

>look mom, I'm acting! all this emoting, aren't I good ?

Galadriel is one of the greatest elves that ever lived, complaining about unnatural movements is completely laughable considering what Legolas was shown to do

because the anti-gravity effect of the CGI'd-out wire is too obvious.

Positive AND negative emotions? Fucking groundbreaking!

Each individual frame looks great if it's played frame-by-frame... but in realtime it looks really bad. I think what contributes to bad CGI is that its so expensive to make and slow to produce that you just have to go with what is spit out from the rendering.

>Galadriel is one of the greatest elves that ever lived
Not as a fighter you dumb fuck

She's Welsh, they're PoC.

girl power oppressed-elf bullshit still ticks off enough check boxes for them to make her white (and race swapping Galadriel would be too obvious even for them)
don't forget niggolas and that race mixing romance they have planned

There's literally no way this is going to be good. Is it going to be the most expensive flop ever made?

she won multiple awards for this role you plebeian

this is your brain on milking a victim complex except the white version

LITERALLY TOO BIG TO FAIL

We really don't know the context though of how much 'girl power' they will give her though. Could be similar to Arwen. In the books Arwen gets mentioned like 3 times in the whole trilogy and she basically exists to only get married in the end. In the movies they made Arwen into some magic weilding elf who saves Hobbits from black riders using magic equivalent to a Maiar (Gandalf is the only one who could add horses to the waves).

IT MUST BE TRUE
JEFF BOZOS NEVER LIES
MEDIA NEVER LIES
NOT A MARKETING PLOY
NOT A MONEY LAUNDERING SCHEME

i haven't been keeping up with this, can anyone shed a light for me whether it is already known if we will be getting practical effects like the original lotr trilogy or a cgi shitfest like the hobbit trilogy?

she plays Dev Patel's mother (during his character's childhood) and one of his love interests (when he's an adult) in this. not huges roles but she acted them differently enough that I didn't realize they were played by one person until I looked at the cast.
