They really cut this show off at the knees just as it was hitting it's stride and learning from its mistakes, like how they portrayed Vulcans rather poorly. Season 4 (minus the finale) really showed how great it could have been.

It's easily the worst Vs TNG, DS9 and Voyager But still pretty comfy at times.

I really enjoyed it, finished it for the first time a few months ago.
The Xindi arc was alright, the problem was that alien nazis two-parter in the end, that was rough.
Also the 3 episode arcs in season 4 really don't work, they drag on too much, only one or two of these are good.
Really bittersweet ending too, I wish we had the usual 7 seasons.

star trek is the one place where nitpicking really is valid because it is traditionally grounded in a by-the-books word of god reference material style. every bit accounted for. if there are nits to pick that means they have rejected the "word of god" and are rogue.

No it's not, they nitpick about how in epsiode X from season X Geordi said this to data and then play a clip of it over and over again against the current material and play some fart sound effects.

That's the jokes used to fill time, they specifically say that the writing is the problem, just like you.

It's not really that grounded though as the autism people make it out to be.
It's grounded in the sense of what kind of stories they talk about, but even in TOS there are things that should make the canon autists like RLM short circuit just from episode to episode.
