I always assumed the reasoning for Goten getting super saiyan so easily was because when ChiChi had him, Goku was in his natural SSJ state. He had complete control and could walk around normal after training in HTC. Trunks getting super saiyan as a kid is even more bullshit, Vegeta never managed to make SSJ his base form

The introduction of power levels. Now instead of clever tactics and grit whoever won all came down to whoever had the higher magical number, and training didn't matter because only certain species could break through the arbitrary power level ceiling while others could just barely keep up even if they both did the exact same type of amount of training. The fighting didn't change to reflect power levels, everyone seems just as strong or fast, it's just Character X has a billion power level and Character Y only has 750 million so Character Y's punches don't hurt Character X.

It was a stupid mechanic. There were still kino moments even as late as the cell saga but these were all times when the writer ignored his own system and just had fights where both combatants were perfectly capable of killing the other instead of one being able to Hulk Out and no sell everything that hit them (which is what most fights became after power levels were introduced).

I agree though, shit turns in to a 'Super Sayin Bargain Sale' after Cell. Just handing this shit out was pretty brutal to the power scaling.

I'm kind of cool with Goten being a side character that doesn't really fight. It's kind of nice to see the world become peaceful, and the need for constant training and fighting to lessen. It's part of what I like about Dragon Ball, the the characters and world grew.

At least until Super where it feels like all the growth stopped, and what changes we do get are characters retrogressing to the status quo.

Yes you idiot. Because how the fuck could they literally impress anymore? Characters in fuckin dragonball were already moving too fast for even some of the fighters to see. The power levels for better or for worse were necessary. It's a cheap way to show someone being impressive without having to make them seem even faster or stronger than before. Because again, how the fuck could you even do that if people are already moving too fast too see?
