Not trying to shitpost and im sure Im kind of late to this discussion BUT whats the appeal of red letter media and half in the bag? Is it just supposed to be somewhat humorous reviews interpreted by the average joe who pays barely any attention to movies, and then gives half ass'd explanations to what they saw? I understand they have some dank memes and a cult following but I dont get the hype.
It also seems to be a lot of drama behind the scenes from what I gather (though I don't really understand exactly what that is). Is that why people here obsess over it?
if you truly want to know why they suck, not just why you don't like them, watch this stupid youtube video
Ryan Price
They had higher production values and higher levels of movie criticism than the TGWTG type internet reviewers that were common around the time.
Brayden Carter
When did Half in the Bag become the main show everyone talks about?
Redlettermedia originally got popular from the Plinkett reviews, which are still great to this day.
David Williams
The drama is overinflated by the schizo fans. Basically the fanbase has been split into two major factions (each with their own levels of infighting) with Mike supporters on one side and Jay fans on the other. Broadly you can summarise Team Mike as being conservative, committed to the regular shows and supportive of Mike's decision to suspend Jay for two months last summer. Team Jay is a big tent but they basically want a fresh format with new series ideas and a continuation of the main story from HitB. Most of them decry Jay's suspension as unfair and want to see new members added and Rich's membership status elevated to a full time partner. Things really degenerated after some autist called in a bomb threat at their studio and tried to pin the blame on Jack. Others suspect Mike arranged the whole thing.

I'm kind of middle of the road on RLM but the Money Plane Half in the Bag was funny.
Leo Wright
This is even gayer than RLM.
Ian White
>I understand they have some dank memes >le dank memes meme Maybe they're just not a zoomer thing
Christopher Johnson
>Not trying to shitpost but I'm going to pretend I haven't seen the dozen RLM threads that appear on Yea Forums literally every single day

You won't understand unless you hate yourself and hate the world and hate movies

It’s not, and the only reason you think it is is because you relate to sarcastic midwits

>whats the appeal of red letter media and half in the bag? Good reviews of films without coming off as insufferable cunts. Partially because they have pretty well adjusted moderate views about just about everything, so everyone except autistic femcels & incels can agree with their reviews of most things >reviews interpreted by the average joe who pays barely any attention to movies They have a good balance amongst them of people who actually went to film school and people who just enjoy watching movies, so they're able to have some pretty good discussions about why movies are great or bad without getting overly technical >It also seems to be a lot of drama behind the scenes from what I gather That's nothing. You fell for a meme where people make up a bunch of random shit about 'drama' behind the scenes because some faggot who used to do reviews with them told a bunch of stories about typical dumb friend shit that happened between them in college
This is why you should NEVER listen to anything your fucking fans say. The only people who get this involved with the show to the degree to the point of posting their theories on the internet are complete fucking schizos. They're literally the last people on the planet you should take advice from.
Btw, was Jay actually suspended, or is this just more schizophrenic tea leaf reading?
Bentley Robinson
You can put it on in the other monitor while paying a game and not pay too much attention to it, and it's comfy. Literally the only bad thing is the geroge costanza type guy's (idk their names yet) shrieking gibbon laugh that makes all of them turn the if heads in veiled cringe. It just cuts through. Is there a browser extention to like, equalize that motherfucker's forced-ass laugh?
Matthew Campbell
Wait wait wait, suspended? What for? Said something too spicy?
Jayden Nguyen
The thing that got me interested in Half in the Bag was when I realized that they have a genuine interest and knowledge about filmmaking and often have interesting insights about the movies they review. They've been making their own amateur films since they were in school and have even released a couple movies for sale such as Space Cop.
Brody Allen
This is like your 10th RLM thread today schizo
James Evans
>It also seems to be a lot of drama behind the scenes from what I gather (though I don't really understand exactly what that is). That's all posted by 1 schizo who has the hots for Jay.
Jackson Powell
They're my friends.
Andrew Thompson
Literally me. Gonna start another a "the slap" thread since Depp trial is taking over my limelight
Jeremiah Murphy
I dunno, it's just cheap entertainment and passes the time. I find it comfy. Sometimes they're kinda funny. They don't have great insight or anything except occasionally on re:View, but it's fun when they watch a straight up bad movie and talk about why they think it sucks. Sometimes that can be interesting as well. BOTW is more entertaining than HITB, though.
Benjamin Cox
where the FUCK is the Picard review???? it's over for them
Matthew Hernandez
This is a fairly decent and unbiased summation. I'd also add that Mike's relationship to Jessi was a major instigating factor in the drama about the Patreon.
Landon Campbell
based Rick Worley poster love his Whills video
Asher Campbell
It’s the act and the edit that proves they know what they are talking about. There are tons of times where they clearly have knowledge but still ask “what was that character/actress/movie name again?” It makes it seem like a genuine discussion while also thought out and scripted. It’s a perfect balance, and I didn’t get it right away. Takes time to truly understand their gimmick.
Like this clip, Jay and Mike telling comic book movie fans to get a life was both serious and a joke at the same time.
Worley is right about RLM being superfluous with the prequel hate, there is plenty that started going wrong starting with Empire and Return. Mike somewhat walked it all back in his Mandalorian review though. Some of what Rick Worley did was very artsy, drawing parallels that didn’t exist. Some of it is also George Lucas being a good salesman and Worley getting wrapped up in the pitch. Worley kinda did the same thing with Warren Beatty and his Dick Tracy review. Great review, and it made me love that movie, but Warren Beatty also has a huge ego and talks a good talk about his product.
Ultimately Worley is too spiteful, political, and mentally Ill to surpass RLM in quality content. Worley is transparent, RLM is not.
David Richardson
>it just cuts through It’s called sound editing they do it on purpose because morons like you don’t know a thing about filmmaking.
Ian Gray
OP completely destroyed.
Leo Russell
>Is it just supposed to be somewhat humorous reviews interpreted by the average joe who pays barely any attention to movies, and then gives half ass'd explanations to what they saw? Pretty much yeah. I just like to listen to it while I'm driving

Has Rich managed to cast the ring in to the fire yet? Or is he still coddling his birthday present?
Juan Rogers
You're a retarded faggot and the only "drama behind the scenes" is made up by you and the other /r/Cinemassacretruth truth autismoids. You are as transparent as you are a fucking retarded nigger. I suggest you kill yourself.
And? You got a point there /r/Cinemassacretruth autismo? You will never have friends, you will never be loved, and you die alone and no one will remember you ever existed.
Star Trek is notorious for continuity errors. Worley could’ve used Mikes love of Star Trek against him, but instead just kinda assumed Mike knew what he was talking about. Anyway, it’s irrelevant, because Star Trek was serialized TV show, that automatically ranks it below Star Wars from a filmography perspective. Comparing TV to movies is like comparing a graphic novel to an actual book. That Rick Worley didn’t say this shows he is equally inept and mostly spouts film school dogma.
You're correct I don't know shit. Enlighten me, o dispenser of knowledge, why they do this. How is it not grating? Enthrall me with your acumen
Christopher Flores
Who gives a shit about continuity errors? Worley didn't use Mike's love of Star Trek against him because he's not out to kill people's enjoyment, he's out to highlight the vapidity of youtuber cinephiles
Elijah Gutierrez
Rich is usually laughing at something in the movie being grating. It’s a translation to the audience of how absurd something is.
Cooper Sanders
>Who gives a shit about continuity errors? RLM when they reviewed the prequels. Worley didn’t dive into Star Trek because he was lazy fag from San Fran, simple as. He’s clearly seething that some mid western gentiles showed up his film school professors and their favorite Jewish directors.
James Gomez
While I enjoy Half in the Bag well enough, the main draw for me is Best of the Worst. I realize it's basically the same show, just with more people, but since they watch crap cheesy movies or bizarre instructional/educational videos, it's got more of an MST3K type vibe to it. I watch pretty much every Best/Wheel of the Worst, while I only really watch Half in the Bag if I'm familiar with the movie.
Thomas Ortiz
Furthermore, if you are following their conversation you will know when Rich is going to laugh. It’s like pulling out before cumming, eventually you get used to it.
Zachary Moore
Is the one video about a fag seething about RLM 10 years later? I tried watching the first few times it was linked but his insane ramblings about Lucas genius made me tune out pretty quickly
Hunter Richardson
>insane ramblings about Lucas genius That shit was all common place during the marketing of the prequels, Rick didn’t make it up and RLM concurred when they did their Mandalorian review. .
Elijah Murphy
plinkett reviews are barely a thing
Easton Perry
I don't care, it's dumb. Even though RLM made a lot of jokes, they made sure to point out that Lucas a talented guy that simply got to comfortable and too powerful to be questioned. This new narrative of subtle ring theory of whatever gay fuck that Lucas brilliantly puts into his films is retarded because it doesn't match his actual filmography, which goes beyond Star Wars Where's the 40min video explaining the brilliance of Red Tails?
Ethan Lee
Hi, Jack!
Aaron Miller
>The one thing you shouldn't say on an airplane.
Parker Garcia
The ring theory is exclusive to Star Wars’s eastern philosophies. I’ll be honest I haven’t seen the RLM prequel review fully because it’s extremely outdated. You say George was too powerful to be questioned, yet he cut Jar Jar from the trilogy. I loved Jar Jar as a kid and was upset at his absent in the sequels. Ultimately this proves George was right, RLM is dumb for thinking the prequels weren’t made for two groups of people in mind. Just because you don’t like Jar Jar doesn’t mean Lucas didn’t have adults in mind.
Brandon Moore
The Plinkett reviews barely even mention Jar Jar. How can you say the Plinkett reviews are wrong and outdated if you haven’t even watched them?
Ryan Cruz
the appeal is discussion of and opinions on movies and television. crazy, i know. unthinkable in a place such as this. an absolutely wild cry in an otherwise orderly world.
Ethan Lewis
The Plinkett reviews are missing a four letter word I like to call
>shit
>I mean poop
>I mean trash
>I mean ass
>No sorry, just kidding I mean GARBAGE
>no I'm kidding I mean that they're lacking in TONE
>What's Tone you ask? It's how a movie feels.
this is why the Plinkett shit is like 4 hours long. And those hilarious bits about the hooker he has tied in his basement. Can't forget those nuggets of cinematic criticism
Cameron Anderson
None of what you typed makes sense >The ring theory is exclusive to Star Wars’s eastern philosophies. Not it isn't. There's nothing inherently easter about a chiastic structure. >I’ll be honest I haven’t seen the RLM prequel review fully because it’s extremely outdated. How? It's taking about films released earlier (films which draw a lot from the Iraq War btw) >You say George was too powerful to be questioned, yet he cut Jar Jar from the trilogy. Because he was very, very unpopular. Not because someone told him. >RLM is dumb for thinking the prequels weren’t made for two groups of people in mind. I don't even know what you mean >Just because you don’t like Jar Jar doesn’t mean Lucas didn’t have adults in mind. Nobody liked Jar Jar.
Josiah Robinson
They can't be bought.
Christopher Russell
Holy fucking shit you are stupid
Benjamin Lopez
>There's nothing inherently easter about a chiastic structure. The Force disagrees >films >Iraq War There is only one Star War after the invasion of Iraq. >Because he was very, very unpopular. Among man children. The kids loved him, as George knew. But the kids voices weren’t heard for 20 years.
The original Star Wars saga was made for adults and kids alike.
Nothing in your post has anything to do with the post you’re replying to.
Tyler Cooper
i follow RLM mostly to keep track of Rich Evans criminal activity did you guys know that they had planned to release a plinkett review of rise of skywalker 6 months ago? apperently rich "undisclosed" gambling addiction made the project lack funding and the boys had to stage an invervention you can tell that the rest of the crew is alittle resentful of Rich in the two latest BotW
Christopher Hernandez
>replied to a misreply
Cameron Evans
They are out dated because they thought it would be a good idea if JJ Abrams directed Star Wars while George Lucas directed people to their seats. They even praised 2009 Trek which is not at all the case today. I’d love to see them re:View it without a bias to their work or Star Trek or the prequels.
Joshua Turner
>The Force disagrees What? The Force isn't a chiastic structure. It has nothing to do with it. >There is only one Star War after the invasion of Iraq. So only Revenge is dated then? >The kids loved him Prove it. How many video games he sold? How many toys or comics? >The original Star Wars saga was made for adults and kids alike. Yeah, it's called "family friendly". That's why you didn't see a kid getting shot to death or an implied massacre of 6 year olds in them >I loved Jar Jar and still do. You're the only one
Angel Evans
>those 6 hours of reviews are outdated because of one off hand comment from a completely different review
