1.) it wasn’t be rushed to meet a deadline like MCU movies 2.) they weren’t trying to make the prawns look photorealistic and took liberties with their design

Mix of practical and CGI in real environments not greenscreens.

kek

lighting and unfamiliar non-human characters / props

when they were escaping the lab and the alien guns simply obliterated the humans into fucking chunky blood stains, the sounds of it...holy shit, i was fucking floored. i had never seen such rawness in a movie before. it felt real. felt kind of demoralizing too in a way.
that movie had a realness to it that i don't think any sci-fi will achieve again for some time

>poo in the streets
>poo in the thread
Classic Sanjay

Western animation with passion behind it. Now all CGI is made by chinks. I also have a theory Hollywood is shitting CGI on purpose to make audiences prepared for even cheaper CGI. I mean most backgrounds in fucking Monk tv-series are CGI and they are better than current movies.

good morning sir bloody basterd

cancelled Halo movie leftovers

it doesn't have to talk like buildings or any cgi animal. make them talk and it becomes weird

esl btfo'd himself

>it doesn't have to talk like buildings

train is a bloody bastard
i fuck train bloody!!! good mornings

> They knew exactly what they were going for from the get-go.
> They made sure the prawns felt like they belonged in the environment they moved in (interacting with the environment, accurate lighting, performances etc.)
> They knew how to distribute their budget and time.
> The handheld photography helps somewhat.

thats not cgi, they got actual south africans to play them

did he die

I think it's also a contrast thing. I always though that movies that have decent CGI with a amateurish/mockumentary side are often good at making the scifi/fantasy part visually more believable.

Same for the second pirates of the caribbean movie, the director extensively worked with the VFX team instead of them working independently on these shots. Also the team used a real life model of the aliens in each shot for reference.

It doesn't have an anthropomorphic face you retards. my god everything have to be spelled out here.

I just wanted to point out this movie came out the same year as James Cameron's Avatar and 20 times better than Avatar. They're the same movie at the core, storywise, but District 9 is actually fucking great.

>poo in the streets
>shit in the sheets

Crazy how they did this too. So the guy who played the prawns (one guy) wore a mocap suit, but the cg team couldn't use any if the data from it.

They had to animate everything by hand, using the original footage as a base.

They are inhuman, so entering uncanny valley is less likely.

Pakistan is in the bag with indians doing this shit

Oooohhhh you know he dead

what did they use for this?

Houdini or Maya?

>that frame

Every fucking time lmao

it was not be a real misstake gentle man

It doesn't. It looks like a fucking PS3 cutscene.

what the bitch basterd is this it look so many real
is he be the ok?

Don't listen to these faggots, they don't know shit about anything

The reason is because the lighting looks grounded and realistic whereas in most blockbuster films is usually overdone to be more eye catching

This video explains in depth why CGI and VFX often don't look realistic
