Am I stupid or did this make next to zero sense the entire way through?
Even basic things like why they exterminated the Dharma people is never fully explained.
Am I stupid or did this make next to zero sense the entire way through?
>Even basic things like why they exterminated the Dharma people is never fully explained.
That was pretty obvious. The Dharma people were more or less invaders to the island who damaged it and had to be gotten rid of.
>Even basic things like why they exterminated the Dharma people is never fully explained.
it was absolutely explained you dunce
Yea as others mentioned. I mean Dharma was basically fucking with, drilling into the Island etc., hurting it. It was only a matter of time before they messed with the Source. They needed to be dealt with
>inb4 DURR WAT SOURCE? THEY WERE ALL DEAD RIGHT CUZ JACKS DAAAAAD...
>Am I stupid
Yes, very much so
Recently re-watched all of Lost. I really feel like the show lost its way around Season 3 and never fully recovered. Season 1 and part of season 2 were far more comfy but the pacing just kept increasing. Season 3 and revelations of the Others just felt a bit bland. And while further series has some great episodes the explanation, which I understand, wasn't my favourite thing they could have done. But by then I think everyone was only really watching it for the characters. I wonder how different the story would have been if all the tail section people (barring Bernard) weren't killed off? Ana Lucia/Libby actresses did DUIs and Eko actor had a bereavement and wanted out. Still part of me wants to go back.
The new cast sucks except Ben and Desmond.
Sounds like a certain ethnic group
>why they exterminated the Dharma people is never fully explained.
The Others were a fanatical cult who killed everyone off the island except for the few the deemed worthy to join them. The purge was ordered by Widmore, just like he ordered the death of Rousseau and Alex
It felt like as soon as they found the tail survivors the amount of unnecessary characters and red herring filler plot just exploded. The show could have half of its runtime edited out and not lose much of anything.
The Others were ruined the moment they went from tropical wendigoes to closeted mormon autists.
>Am I stupid
yes
ᵉᶜʰᵒᵉˢ ᵒᶠ "ʷᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃˡˡˡˡˡˡˡˡˡˡᵗᵎ" ᶦn ᵗʰᵉ ᵈᶦˢᵗᵃnᶜᵉ
....almost there
That's what I said in my post. Season 3 did that.
I thought it was crazy that a show from the 2000s would be so aggressively christian, until I remembered it was on abc.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the show but not a single mystery was resolved that didn’t inevitably lead to more questions. Not sure if they originally intended to explain literally nothing, but maybe after they just kept piling on the mysteries they realised they had bitten off more than they could chew and just said “fuck it, no explanations!”
>not a single mystery was resolved that didn’t inevitably lead to more questions
name one
Season 3 ends strongly, I think it's the highlight of the series. You're right that the latter 3 seasons aren't as good as the first 3 overall but they do have plenty of comfy parts like 70's Dharmaville. Plus, you're ultimately watching the show for the characters and their backstories more then overarching plot. As a show, it has a large cast with a good portion of them being great characters like Desmond, Locke, Ben, Sawyer, etc.
Who the fuck built the rope bridge!?!?!?
How did Sawyer keep his hair so well-conditioned?
It’s very important to wear styled hair and a full face of makeup every day on deserted islands.
He had the biggest stash of looted items and especially hair conditioner.
The shampoo jew is a scam to keep people in the perpetual cycle of stripping their scalp of oils which makes it dry which necessitates product. If you wash sparingly your scalp will adjust and condition itself.
>never fully explained
You must be new to Lost
The CG department
I got partways through season four and gave up and read summaries of how things ended. It was just too much filler and cockteasing.
The series sucks. The whole thing depended on Locke dying. It was cheap. The gayass writers ran out of good ideas that made the show good and just started forcing stuff.
Introducing guns to the island was a hack move. It was one thing when they only had the marshal's pistol, but once Rousseau, Desmond Hume, and the Others started carrying firearms every conflict was just people pointing guns at each other. The survivors would even point guns at each other to settle internal disputes.
this, the series was much more interesting when guns and bullets were a very limited resource
It’s somewhat comical. They pretty much made every possible mistake they could after the success of S1 and S2. It’s insane that this show was almost 20 years ago though.
Lost is one of those shows that is better if you turn your brain off and just enjoy it.
>It’s insane that this show was almost 20 years ago though
Every time I looked up a character or their actor it would weird me out seeing that they’re mostly born in the 60s and are 50+ now. It feels like five years ago.
Brainlets. Getting filtered by Lost is embarrassing
Did you miss the season 5 flashbacks with Ben that literally show you how the Dharma people got purged? LOST is the most esoteric and thematically complex show ever made. It is highly recommended that you read a lot of books in order to prepare for it. My recommendations:
The Magus
Slaughterhouse 5
Overlords of War
Atlas Shrugged
Third Policeman
Bardo Thodol
House of Leaves
I feel like I “Lost” brain cells while watching it.
It will have one solid episode and then five braindead filler ones. Also the entire central conflict of the fist half could have been avoided by the Others just popping by right away and explaining what in the actual fuck was going on.
I saw those, but they’re immediately introduced as at war already. It makes no sense that the scientists couldn’t possibly be persuaded to fuck off or be more careful. It’s presented as if they never tried to work things out, and just started off with killing one another.
They then do the same thing to the Oceanic people. The Others have severe communication skills deficits that come across as either an unexplained mystery or bad writing for the sake of cockteasing.
completely shits the bed sometime after or maybe even during season 3
fuckass Jacob is a spooky cabin ghost, Locke is now the smoke monster
then who was smoke before???
>Also the entire central conflict of the fist half could have been avoided by the Others just popping by right away and explaining what in the actual fuck was going on.
There's an entire monologue Ben gives that explains why this is a very bad idea. I can tell you lost braincells watching it when the answers are right there in front of you
It's not really a mystery. Protecting the island is their number one priority.
Looks like you weren't paying attention and have to watch it again.
JJ Abrams was in charge of course it made zero fucking sense
i simply can't discuss LOST anymore
i think some stuff went unexplained but then you find retards like OP saying "this made next to zero sense the entire way through?"
So wait, they were actually dead all along?
>some stuff went unexplained
>so this Scottish guy that’s a monk but also a soldier but also a bum or something keeps flipping between 2004 and 1997, so he has to track down this trans man who radiates a mouse to death and tells him that he needs a totem to not stroke out, and this girl the Scottish guy knows has to be the totem
>because magnets
JJ only directed the pilot and had nothing to do with most of the show. It’s so easy to spot most of you non LOST watchers
You gave the mystery and the explanation. What are you complaining about?
>Even basic things like why they exterminated the Dharma people is never fully explained.
Because people fighting over land is a universal basic human conflict that doesnt need a deeper explanation.
>Locke is now the smoke monster
>then who was smoke before???
You've got that backwards. Locke didnt become the smoke monster, the smoke monster became Locke.
Time travel strokes are then never an issue again, and it was just another red herring filler episode.
It’s Doctor Who tier word salad.
Actually, that’s exactly what it is. It’s American Doctor Who.
OP has a bunch of questions he doesn't know the answers to. But the rest of ya'll know
Except his time travel jumping is exactly what allows him to be aware of being in the afterlife in season 6’s flash sideways which helps him bring together the losties to the church. It’s precisely because of his “time travel strokes”.
I forgot about Jacob's brother
Shifting goalposts. Yes, they're not an issue again because they solved the problem in that episode, like how in the following one the gas is no longer a problem because they rendered it inert.
If you're saying that it lead to nothing you're also wrong. The time-traveling led to Daniel making Desmond his constant, which is followed up on in s5e1, and that in itself continues the storyline. And like another person said the mind-traveling is critical in the endgame of the show.
So...why the fuck did Dharma use spoopy Egyptian heiroglyphics for when the swan's timer ran out? That was literally never ever explained.
Walt's powers were never explained
They were Egyptaboos. It was the 70s. They were all about that shit.
*Wuhuhuhuaaaaaahhlluhuhllllllt
Yes they were. Walt was a candidate and was touched by Jacob. All candidates have some sort of ability to summon things. Kate - the black horse. Sawyer - the Sawyer pig. Hurley - the Hurley bird.
Yes they were. Many people in that world are inherently special
There are many Egyptian leftovers on the island, Dharma adopted some of it
How does electromagnetism cause time travel in adult men but autoimmune problems in pregnant women?
It’s not just electromagnetism the island is sitting on exotic matter. There’s probably all sorts of weird radiation (eg the concrete filled area in the Swan hatch).
Also let’s not forget this is a sci-fi with god like beings and objects.
Man In Black (yes I know, the whole Jacob and brother mystical bullshit was fucking retarded) was trying to get off the island, and Jacob was worried that he would use Dharma to do so. Ergo, Jacob orders the others to deal with the Dharma issues. Same goes for any other person/s that come to the island. Jacob has to worry that the man in black would manipulate the group in some fashion to figure out how to get away from the island.
