I didn't realize how excellent this film was until I rewatched it as an adult. Popcorn kino at its absolute peak, better than any other adventure film I've seen, including Raiders of the Lost Ark etc. Made me feel like a kid again.
I tried the sequels, they suck ass. The first film (Curse of the Black Pearl) is the only good one, but that's okay because it treats itself like a standalone film, clearly they never expected it to be a franchise, and it's better for it.
If an user time traveled to the 21st century from the past and I had to show them the magic of adventure cinema, I wouldn't even consider any other film.

nailed it. zero fat on this movie, every scene is worthwhile and exciting. one of my favorite ending shots in film as well
>bring me that horizon...
>snaps his compass closed
>cut to black
>main score comes crashing in at full volume as the credits roll

they're both vital parts of the adventure kino lineup
>the mummy
>sahara
>national treasure
>van helsing
>pirates of the carribean
>the mask of zorro

Yeah it really is a fantastic movie.

is this actually any good? wiki reception and imdb makes me think not

It's a fun adventure movie if you are into that. But it's not in the same league as the best ones mentioned here.

Black Pearl is great, fun adventure. Dead Man's Chest is alright, mostly because of Davy Jones. At World's End sucked and everything after that is just a soulless cashgrab. I love the first one and watch it anytime it's on tv though.

You forgot:
>Drink up me hearties, yo ho!

It’s a broken movie. It’s clear they started out making a drama and turned it into an adventure movie or vice versa. Ended up making something completely forgettable.

This, the second film is about as good as the first, just with a little bloat.

PotC series is underrated though.

It's a 10/10. One of the most unexpected masterpieces.

I always liked PotC but I liked it even more when I learned that it was supposed to be a Secret of Monkey Island movie that they reworked into its own thing.

Dead Man's Chest would have been great if it was just another standalone story instead of it being a setup for a sequel. Davy Jones is one of the best villains and was a great foe, the other bullshit wasn't needed.

The intro/first appearance of Captain Jack Sparrow near the end of the first act deserves to be immortalized. His name hasn't even been spoken yet, the audience has no idea who he is. In less than 100 seconds everything about his character is communicated without a single line of dialogue.

it takes many influences from KINO Captain Blood as well

Im the only one who likes them all?

This may be a rumor.
The film is based on the original POTC ride at Disneyland, and Secret of Monkey Island was also inspired by that same ride. So who based what on which is a bundle of mysteries.
It's safe to say the ride, the game, and the film are all more-or-less the same thing though.

It's still a great film, the problem is World's End is rubbish.

whats this, looks fun

Im due for another rewatch myself, been almost a year. Its the movie I always go back to when I'm feeling trapped in the boring 9-5 grind. Keira Knightley is a goddess

All 3 are Kino nigger

>The film is based on the original POTC ride at Disneyland
There's very little to that ride besides the theme of pirates

The characters are directly taken from and made up by SoMI
>Guybrush = Combination of heroic Will Turner and goofy Jack Sparrow
>Governor Marley = Elizabeth Swann (governor's daughter)
>Ghost pirate LeChuck = Ghost pirate Barbossa
>Sequel introduces voodoo lady

The fact that Disney bought up LucasArts afterwards is also damning

>all 3
Oh no no... nobody tell him

in hindsight, it was a blessing that they were original characters with no franchise connection rather than fucked up adapted characters.

I love mapshit

indiana jones?

Raiders of the Lost Ark deserves to be on the list, yes.

No, Last Crusade should be on the list instead

I am due for a rewatch

It's not bad.

The GOAT adventure kino right here

Attached: images.jpg (960x1440, 140.23K)

Why not both?
Hell, just put the whole Indy trilogy on the list. They all fit perfectly

for me its
>the first 1.5 pirates of the carribean's
>the other 0.5 gets worse and then the 3rd one is just not good comparatively to the very first one
>the 4th one is so bad
>the 5th one is formulaicly ok but thus forgettable
>therefore the first 3 pirate's raise substantially in quality and self worth because its subsequent releases were shamefully not doing the kino of the first one's justice. I'm thinking every further subsequent release, like pirates 6 will just further iron that as being true to the first 3 films.

It's 20 minutes too long imo. Should have been shorter.

First film is great. All the others aren't worth watching, even if some are worse than others. Ignore all the sequels and treat the first one as standalone.
I wouldn't even recommend this to children.

I really enjoy all of these, nice little adventures

Agree with the inclusion of Zorro and I haven't seen Sahara or National Treasure.
Van Helsing is cool and all, but I don't know if it's on the level of the rest

>It's a shilling to tie up your boat at the dock... and I shall need to know your name
>What do you say to three shillings and we forget the name.
why not just give a fake name

>too long
No such thing zoomie. Treat your ADD.

I kinda miss those kinds of films

To communicate efficiently to casual audiences that he's so notorious that he doesn't want to share his real name.

there is a recut that changed it so the monkey comes back in the last scene, to set up for the sequels. its such shit

and to the port authority that he's got something to hide

I know rest of the trilogy is tangled mess but I'll still defend them just for Davy Jones' sake

He's so full of himself I wouldn't be surprised if he's just trying to boast. But it's not that deep, it's literally just a family film plot device.

The first movie is clearly the superior one but am I the only one who loved World Ends at least as much as the second one? I loved Davy Jones, Beckett, and Norrington had his nice redemption arch, the Pirate gathering/election was fun, the Singapore stuff had an interesting atmosphere. Maybe yes the plot with Calypso was a little weak but god that final battle was great.
I stopped watching the serie after Fountain of Youth because it was garbage tho.

HI, how are ya?

Airplane kino

World's End was basically RotJ set in Sea. And instead of ewoks we get Calypso

"First POTC movie was the only good one" is the most cringe take, and idk why people keep parroting it. Dead Man's Chest is easily on par, and World's End is really awesome too. We should appreciate the trilogy

Keira was perfect in the first oneeven with the flat chest

Attached: 1642617415174.jpg (2500x1623, 807.82K)

I enjoyed the first two, but At World's End lost me with all its "look how whacky we are" antics and its endless twist and turns that made no sense. The final ship battle was amazing, though. I unironically preferred On Stranger Tides.

Which is the one with the giantess scene? That's all I can remember from it

She was 17 in that movie you sick fuck.
