Orcas are based
Anything by David Attenborough
Deep ocean stuff
they're machines man. i wonder who got the bright idea of "let's shove a bunch of them in bath tubs and treat them like credit cards" lmao
beautiful as hell in the wild though
isn't this a meme? i haven't seen it but i've seen people spam "idiocracy isn't a documentary"
any particular favorites/recs?
i'm more inclined to social(ish) issues. lake of fire is one of my favorites for example. docs are great when they take a broad look at the subject interviewing people/talking about thing that are relevant to the subject, which lake of fire excelled at. hearts and minds as well
they are so cool but man there is no way you could get me to swim with one now
Super size me
You could swim in the wild with them. Despite their alternative name of “Killer Whale”, there has never been a recorded instance of an Orca attacking a human in the wild.
How the fuck do animals keep their teeth clean?
mother fuckers leave no trace
Favourite non-nature-themed doc.
They don't need to.
its a comedy movie about people becoming dumber in the future due to the convenience technology provides.
actually i think the reason the movie gives is that smart, successful people are way more cautious about having kids while all the dummies reproduce, but i like my interpretation better
Werner herzog stuff. The grizzly man was badass.
i mean, orcas are in water lmao.
but for other ones, non-domestic obviously, this user is rightaren't there those birds that clean crocodiles teeth?
i agree, loved this one. the unique people he interviews along with the dj shadow tracks were great
saw grizzly man, thought it was great. i hear into the abyss and land of darkness are great as well. any others?
errol morris is surely on that list as well, yes?
Princes of the Yen
>Narrated by Charles Dance
How often do humans swim next to orcas?
they are literal sea niggers
I like A is for Architecture. It came out in 1960. It's not even all that informative, but it has very nice presentation and doesn't use trailer music... Here, have a link: openculture.com
I also really like EXPO – Magic of the White City. This one is about the Chicago expo of 1893. It has a lot of paintings, very nice music and narration written by someone who actually reads books. The subject matter also fascinates me to no end! It's up on youtube: watch?v=cpOQE5KJJds
If anyone has similar stuff, please recommend them too!
>Wild orcas are not considered a threat to humans, and no fatal attack on humans has ever been documented. There have been cases of captive orcas killing or injuring their handlers at marine theme parks. Orcas feature strongly in the mythologies of indigenous cultures, and their reputation in different cultures ranges from being the souls of humans to merciless killers.
they're based

Is this supposed to make me dislike orca bros?
Theyve started attacking boats in the Atlantic
nypost.com
I bet were gonna see some Orcas attacking humans real soon.
Why are you lying? There are cases of orcas attacking boats since antiquity.
>On 15 June 1972, Lucette was holed by a pod of killer whales and sank approximately 200 miles west of the Galapagos Islands. The group of six people on board escaped to an inflatable life raft and a solid-hull dinghy with little in the way of tools or provisions.[3]
Almost forgot! There's also The Dolphin House. It's about 70s sensory deprivation tanks, telepathically talking to dolphins and Dr Lilly. It's also up on youtube: watch?v=UziFw-jQSks
Channel has a few other good ones.
I also like Adam Curtis stuff like Hypernormalization. That one's up on youtube as well, but I think the one there has some scenes missing. Just look it up. It's a bit conspiracy theory oriented, but I enjoy watching those.
>source: Murdoch media
Fuck that shitty propaganda, without even clicking the propaganda I bet those fisherman deserved it.
Cocaine Cowboys, most of Ken Burns' work like his Country Music doc, a lot of pre-2010 History Channel docs like Little Ice Age, KKK: A Secret History, Hillbilly: The Real Story, and Rumrunners, Moonshiners & Bootleggers.
They've attacked refugee boats in the Med.
are they grooming CD as Attenborough's eventual successor? he seems too villainous imo
What part of
>no fatal attacks on humans has ever been recorded
do you not understand?
>Manufacturing Consent
i really liked hearing chomsky speak in lake of fire. i don't know much else about him outside of the fact that he's known for politics (?) and linguistics. this book has been recc'd to me before. what were your thoughts?
this is incorrect and easily dis-proven
Why is that whale making a ꜱoy face at me?
Please share credible sources of orcas attacking and killing humans in the wild then.
You have 5 minutes.

>"don't you think if you were in a bath tub for 25 years you'd get a little irritated, agitated, maybe a little psychotic?"
I saw it in my twenties and it was the mid naughts so it felt very profound to me then. I practically had and epiphany and led me down a rabbit hole I never really got out of. But so much of what's in there is common knowledge now I'm not sure how much you will get out of it. He is a very eloquent speaker either way. The second half of the documentary is about the (at the time current) situation in East Timor which is now totally different. You can safely skip the second half even if you're on board by then.
Read the thread nigger. en.wikipedia.org
Old british docs are maximum comfy. My top 3 are probably Civilisation, The Ascent of Man and Alistair Cooke's America. I'll usually put one on to fall asleep to.

is there any research done on why orcas/dolphins seem so placid around humans despite both being vicious killers in their own environment?
I mean I'm sure its a bit exaggerated and more the result of us not always just swimming around in the ocean with the whole time but a similar situation arose with wolves and theres very little evidence from pre-history of them hunting/eating us other than scavenging and its the same today whereas most other mammalian predators we evolved with (big cats/bears/hyenas/etc) will still just rip us apart given the first chance
Command and control, hands down for me bros top tier horror documentary
Is it true Orcas are Shark/Whale hybrids? What ancient madlads concocted these beasts? Atlantians?
watched a surprisingly interesting documentary (~40m iir) on youtube a few yrs back about Mortal Kombat and its impact on 90s vidya and culture
it wasn't even a real documentary as such and even had T2S narration (that still somehow took me a bit to notice wasn't real but I guess I wasn't expecting it in the first place so wtv)

Aquatic creatures will often have cleaner fish who will clean their teeth or eat parasites. Crocs & gators are known to let certain bird species do the same.
Seal flippers made these posts.
