Wait, what?
This is being made by universal. But it's not starring Cage as Dracula. So it's not part of their dark monsters universe?
I thought the entire part of the extended universe was to make the films more interesting due to small connections and continuity. This is frustratingly weird

This was in production since 2002 or so. It was never supposed to be.
>In 2002, Bragi F. Schut wrote the initial screenplay for The Last Voyage of the Demeter with Robert Schwentke on board to direct. However, the film languished in development hell for close to two decades with several other directors attached to the film including Marcus Nispel, Stefan Ruzowitsky, David Slade and Neil Marshall. At one point Noomi Rapace and Ben Kingsley were set to star in the film, with Viggo Mortensen "in talks".

It's like that long announced Cleopatra film that never came out.

First I'm hearing about this, and already getting hyped despite the superfluous 1800s nigger doctor appearing in it. Javier Botet does great with creature roles, so it'll probably be a CGI Dracula, and a movie set entirely on the damned voyage from the Carpathians to London is a really interesting take.

Holy shit, this looks and sounds ridiculously bad.

Even though I like the cast, and will watch, I don't think this will do well at the box office. I just don't think the audience excitement is there to justify its high budget. That is unless Nolan actually detonates a nuke for this film. Thats a gimmick that will bring in the crowds.
