Unlikable main with a dull character arc - realising he's a piece of shit and giving himself up to death as a form of accepting responsibility isn't a satisfying ending. If you're going to make your main character an anti-hero you have to give him some redeeming qualities so that the audience is at least somewhat invested in his journey.

That's the shallowest, faggiest, most Rian Johnson-esque bullshit reason to like this movie.

It is a tale of courage and honor, of selflessness. Gawain takes the whole movie to get rid of his egoistical nature and cowardice. Arthur's dream was built on truth and chivalry and Gawain foresaw that building his reign on a lie would end up destroying him as well as the whole kingdom and thus he chooses to accept his fate to save himself as well as Arthur's dream and by doing so proves that he has finally learned the lesson. Those who wonder if he got his head chopped off by the Green Knight are fucking idiots too. Of course not since it was all a magical acid trip journey kind of game, all set up by her caring mother who wanted to transform Gawain the manchild into Gawain the Knight.

I saw this movie in theaters 4 times. The last 2 times there were zoomers on their phones the entire time. The same thing happened during my screening of The Lighthouse, Pan's Labyrinth, and Uncut Gems. They get suckered into watching it through marketing and, instead of leaving like respectable people, they sit in the theaters but go on their phones, then shit on the movie afterwards.

i honestly don't get Yea Forums's hate for this. the film was basically a fairy tale from in its every aspect and had no aspirations of period accuracy, but for some reason everyone here whines that Patel's brown. for the record, i am vehemently against black/brownwashing in period films, but this is definitely not the case
