I saw the Northman last friday in the cinema and made a post about it. I figured I'd make another one for other curious anons
Some notes on the film, without spoiling plot details:
>not a single person that is not of European descent
>we get to see Anya's bush and butt
>The adventure is very personal and emotional and not as grand as say Conan the Barbarian. There's plenty of violence but few of it in action scenes. Mainly the beginning and end are epic adventure
>most of the trailer, especially the berserker action scenes, is in the first half and beginning of the film
>Dafoe and Bjork are only in the beginning of the film
>Kidman's bogging is kind of obvious in some shots, nothing too bad though
>Doesn't have the medieval blue filter that hollywood likes to use. It was very colourful. The night scenes were almost black and white as opposed to blue tinted which I liked
>Beginning and end sections were great, mid section wasn't bad but not as adventurous. They stay in the same location whereas the plot and setting move fast in the beginning
>Parts of the film were edited out and the beginning goes by a bit too fast because of it in my opinion. From BTS videos on youtube I saw some parts with Willem Dafoe that weren't in the film. Also, I can't elaborate on this without spoiling, but a theme I saw within the character of Amleth is not as well executed because of these cut parts. Nothing jarring though, didn't take away from the experience
>Ending is absolute kino
>no le cool edgy liberal atheists with undercuts that were shown on the Vikings series
>Conquer your fate is a very apt subtitle for the film
>soundtrack is good and atmospheric. There's no real repeating melody but ranges from thunderous drums and vocals to brooding strings
>cool and poetic dialogue, especially from Alexander
