tfw my mom will never take me along while she ran errands and I’ll never be able to rent out a goosebumps or Batman animated series VHS ever again in this lifetime baka

>I wish I had to go out in public and interact with people to rent a movie
Says the 300 pound incel in his mom's basement

Renting vice city and getting a sugar dip pouch.

My local video store had an 'adult section' that had a bead curtain to separate it from the main area. The videos contained within showed boobs, and full frontal nudity (no erect man parts or penetration). These were different times.

>video store closed before I got to see what was behind the curtains

In the grand scheme of things with physical media slowly being phased out, it was inevitable

Don't feel bad bro. It was mostly 'Emmanuelle' tier pornography. Great for parents in an internet free age, but by today's standards fairly poor fap material.

Our local video rental store didn't have empty boxes that you took to the counter, it had plastic holders for the cover and rear of the video. As you looked through each section, all you could here was *clack*, *clack*, *CLACK*....

Pure comfy

This. Part of me misses having blockbuster around but realistically I'd never use it. Getting nostalgic for old fast food places makes more sense. I really hate how most look generic as fuck now when they all had their own unique style before.

>In the grand scheme of things with physical media slowly being phased out, it was inevitable
yes but there was better ways of handling the transition.

McDonald's advertising was aimed more towards children back then. When it became more focused on young adults, they style changed with it

Old building use to look kino

That's reassuring. It was mostly just the desire to see a physical representation of porn degeneracy. I'd imagine it wasn't much different than the vibes you'd get from a sex toy shop.

The removal of these type of places drove many to isolation due to prolonged lack of social interaction

I miss having a reason to go outside

At the end of VHS era, did you guys have unmanned VHS rentals?
Was this unmanned store with essentially two big vending machines where you put in cash, selected a movie from a screen, then some robot arm machine thing grabbed a tape (like in the movie Hackers, could hear it working and taking sweet as time), VHS popped out.
Returned it in the other machine, it automatically billed your late fees - you had be a member and have an access card to get it.

I understand. It was a restricted area. It's the whole forbidden fruit thing.
It wasn't the same seedy vibe as true porn, that was the point, it was 'normie friendly'.

What a Pizza Hut in the garage?

the internet and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race

two nukes was not enough.

This

Reject home media, return to re-release screenings.

>they

What are you getting anons? I'm thinking Godzilla 2000 and Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine on N64

The childish element doesn't apply to other places. KFC, Taco Bell etc had their own character without seeming childish. It was informal sure, but I think if there was a venn diagram between people who eat fast food, and people who will only eat at formal looking places, there'd be very little overlap.

The weirdest thing to me about modern architecture is that places that are supposed to be subtle and stand the test of time (libraries, office buldings, shopping centres/malls, musems, town halls etc) are given more experimental designs, yet fast food places where people are expecting a warm comforting atmosphere, they take the formal path.

For me its Batman Returns

I graduated college in 2013, which was the same year the Blockbuster in my college town closed. A week before closing they had a liquidation sale on all their DVD's and marketing posters/pictures that were used for new release movies. You wouldn't believe some of the stuff they were selling. A friend of mine got a framed custom poster that had all the cartoon Marvel characters on it. The picture was probably as big as a twin mattress & there was no way that thing was worth less that at least $500 and my friend bought it for $3. I was lucky enough to get an old Matrix poster for when the first movie came out. They had all this shit just hoarded in their storage closet for years. It was probably the size of a king size mattress. I got it for $5 and ended up selling it at a garage sell I had a few years later and some dude bought it for $100.

The atomization of our society in late-stage capitalism is the biggest disaster for the human race. Internet is just one aspect of it. Could have been absolutely revolutionary and was considered it would bring in a new age of information and community when internet first came out in the 1980s/1990s, but that has long worn off. It's only making us stupider, more terminally online, and more and more into these niche little cults.

>late-stage capitalism
opinion discarded.

Who members' when Blockbuster stopped renting super nintendo games
I member'

same
i always snuck in there

>The atomization of our society in late-stage capitalism is the biggest disaster for the human race.

Blame skyskrapers and sub-urbs. Everyone lives in thier own little world and there's no neighbors anymore. No one talks to one another. Little narccistiic manchildren kids is the obvious result.

Ditching car culture for walkable livable worlds is one key solution. But Car Cult is huge in USA.

>Get a VHS
>Never rewound
>Get a DVD
>Scratched to shit and back
>Get a video game
>Also scratched to shit
Blockbuster sucked balls and I'm tired of pretending it didn't

reddit

lmao never had this problem, that must've sucked

maybe stop living in a black area

The USA is too big not to have cars, retard

god the sheer stupidity some of you retards can come up with. How do you go from thinking the internet is a mistake to sub 0 IQ faggot retards hamfisting their commie ideals into the mix and complaining about car culture?

There's a reason nobody is going to put up with solely relying on mass public transportation to get around you literal gigabrainlet. I dare you to figure it out because if I fucking tell you the tranny commie jannies will ban me again

>300 pound incel
ironically in my video rental space this guy was behind the counter and he knew movies and shows very well, he lost alot of weight after they closed down, I see him sometimes in the city.

No, the future is the past. It'll all collapse and either we will be hunter gatherers or we'll all live in Amish style villages

Nice user. You rebel, you. :-)

also
>sub-urbs
>nobody's neighbours anymore

lmao. just lmao. city fetishizing europhiles will never not amaze me with how dumb they can possibly be

Remember you had to give them a list of your favorite kino to get membership?
Ngl, they were good for snacks too.

I hate the internet and what its done to the world

>t. took the bluepill
people who complain about cars arent talking about long distance travel, but the fact you have to drive or have access to cars to do fucking anything in this day and age.

What else do you suggest to be the cause? Are we at the paradigm of Capitalism instead? Would you prefer I add the adjective Jewish to make it more appealing for you to hate?

I just miss when the world felt so much bigger and people cared more about their local issues than some dumb shit across the planet because twitter told them they should care

Attached: 5lwcqk.jpg (500x500, 41.54K)

I know I was a bad little boy

>Are we at the paradigm of capitalism instead?
Esl?

Man i miss going out with people and just existing in your own little bubble, no outside bullshit. Smart Phones are fucking cancer

Nah someone that doesn't speak English would probably know the definition of paradigm before they use it.

social media is the worst thing to ever happen to the world and i'm taking into account gay people and islam

I remember going to the horror section and looking at the movies I knew my parents would never let me get. the sheer joy i felt when it was my turn to pick the movie, wandering around just looking at the movies boxes and reading the summaries on a friday night.
Where the blockbuster used to be are cellphone stores now.
I want to go back.

>What else do you suggest to be the cause?
how about the actual causes and not some bullshit trivialization some retard came up with to excuse the fact he was a poor retard with no marketable skills and thus no wealth? Marx was the classic "I'm really smart I deserve better but I'm not going to contribute anything to anyone except tell everyone they should kill the rich people because I'm mad" archetype. Not even the original either, just the worst.

You """people""" are literally so fucking stupid it's hard to fathom you could genuinely believe this horseshit. I guess that's what happens when retards grow up on the worst the humanities has to offer instead of appreciating the actual legitimate aspects of philosophical reasoning. This really is just a midwit problem with midwit people with midwit takes consistently trying to ruin everything for everyone because they're too stupid to actually figure reality out or adhere to a legitimate method to understanding reality. Kids need to be taught less about how science is good and more about how the scientific method is good because otherwise clearly we get retards like you.

Cant go out for a drink or meal with friends without one of them taking out their phone and talking about some bullshit online

I fucking hate it

t. midwit

t. "Are we at the paradigm of capitalism instead?"

if your ONLY social interaction was these types of sterile places then you had no life to begin with. you WERE living in isolation you just didnt know it

Forcing people into real life social situations is good and will often cause long lasting positive memories. Online social interactions are more frequent but basically completely worthless. The world was a better place when almost no one had access to the Internet.

Whoops, the word I was looking for is peak, or climax. If I were an ESL I probably would not have made that mistake. I don't actually know what paradigm means, I just thought the word sounded cool and confused it for paragon.

you literally don't, you're just too lazy to fucking walk, because why would you walk when you can drive your car? It literally doesn't make any sense

There are tons of places in the USA where you can live and walk around and do things. Just find one, and don't complain when it actually fucking sucks and you're too undisciplined to actually follow through on your words, like everyone knows you won't

huh, why because there is no blockbuster store anymore? they sucked anyway. before they came in there were small independent video stores. blockbuster came in and drove the majority of those small businesses out of business

Because of the impact on social interaction cum brain

gommies..

Attached: 1629883017714.jpg (537x441, 48.07K)

People were forced into tons of these little social interactions and they often led to larger and more extensive social interactions.

you gotta appreciate the honesty here

Most people aren't pining over Blockbuster specifically ffs.

I am. But also Family Video.

your reasoning is so fucking circular, do you even read what you write? the reason it's shit to walk places is because it has been designed to be that way. duh. no shit i wouldnt want to walk around, that's exactly the point.

That's fair enough, my dude.
>heehee climax

You can keep it. Fuck Blockbuster, it was just a for-profit library with ads everywhere.

wow gaylord

Blockbuster was commercial shit, the comfy local family video rental store was kino.

>the reason it's shit to walk places is because it has been designed to be that way.
I'm not going to listen to some dogshit brained retard tell me I'm using circular reasoning when they're dumb enough to tell me they can't walk anywhere because places weren't designed for it

fuck off, retard. You will NEVER put your money where you're mouth is, because all you do is complain about dumb made up shit perpetuated by fucking retards who don't know a god damn thing. Go live next to the grocery store in a medium town with 100-200k people, you'll get exactly what you're asking for you're just too fucking stupid to do this. I literally lived the life you're talking about, in the USA, so don't tell me that cities aren't somehow designed to have grocery/convenience stores within walking distance. You are just too big of a fucking bitch to walk, period. You'd drive even if cities weren't designed this way, and you'd somehow find a way to complain about that too.

He can't just move where he wants since he lives with his mom.

That and smart phones.

>Most people aren't pining over Blockbuster
they why show pictures of the place and share great memories of going there etc all the time?

big city libraries are actually so fucking kino. I went to a library in a chicago suburb and the feel of places like blockbuster/family video somehow got integrated there.

Blockbuster isn't dead, it's just at the library. None of you would know, because you don't even read
