If Mytharc actually ever went anywhere I would agree, some of the best episodes are Mytharc episodes. But knowing how the show "ends" it's pointless to get invested in the overarching story.

Yeah it didn't end well but the way it started left a lot to the imagination and was must see TV. Those early mythology episodes scratched everyone's conspiracy itch. The monster of the week episodes was just repetitive. It was the same episode everytime just insert new monster. On every rewatch I skip half the motw episodes because they're all the same.

> already has it figured out the first 5 minutes because it matches a series of other killings in the xfiles
>scully has a completely different wrong theory
>they go to town
>local cop or contact is sketchy
>close in on monster
>mulder or scully gets into trouble and the other one save them
>defeat monster
>scully somehow didn't see anything and doubts what happened
>episode ends with monster possibly not being dead
