After watching the SNW trailer...it looks marginally better than Paramount's other shows. This is the first one I'll check out but will drop it the moment it feels too woke. I want sci fi that brings people together, not divides people.

Putting wmwf in the trailer was a shock honestly. I have zero faith in Kurtzman and the producers, but I have full faith that Paramount doesn't want to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to kill the star trek franchise eternally. They have no choice but to bite their tongues and make a show the core fanbase wants to see.

Unfortunately the comedy/quips are atrocious and will probably annoy me anyways. The only hope is that the trailer misrepresented the humor and that things are more balanced. Even TNG had a lot of funny/silly moments from one episode to the next.

I think they realized that women like Rios and women also don't actually want to see men they like emasculated so they do this thing where they sort of leave Rios alone most of the time or put him in situations where he's shit tested by embarrassment, but pulls through with his dignity. Everything that has happened to Rios so far in S2 is VERY Lifetime / Hallmark Channel -tier romantic drama writing. I don't think the writers want to punish Rios for being who he is like they do Picard or they probably will with Kirk in SNW. They get his character and what he's supposed to service and they're protective of him and that's a good sign for now.

I would love a Rios series.

I hope they make his holograms separate again if they do a spinoff. There's a scene in the beta canon where he has to impersonate Mr Hospitality and I'm surprised they never did that with the alpha.
