There is no reason to announce new movies. The last 2 movies flopped incredibly badly. The fan base is broken in half since The Last Jedi and it’s hard to think of a proper cinematic idea to unite the fans again.

The shows have always been take it or leave it really. Not even Rebels is as offensive as the Disney movies. Rogue One still deserves to exist though. If the ST never existed and all we got were Solo, RO and the shows I don't think everyone would be as mad at Disney as they are, if at all.

the last jedi grossed at least 4x its budget. They also just released a new streaming series. they might be revisiting some things before continuing with their monster asset, but it was unequivocally a huge hit from a financial perspective, and they haven't exactly abandoned star wars content.

this statement would be true no matter what franchise you were talking about. make a trilogy or a few sequels close together if you absolutely must have more than one and then move the fuck on and write new shit. each additional sequel to any film dilutes the original, this is both common sense and empirical observation. nobody made citizen kane 2 because it didn't need to exist and we hadn't yet devolved into a crass soulless ferengi civilization.

TLJ wasn’t a huge hit. The movie was expected to make $1.8 billion and ended up making $1.2 billion. This was $600 million less than internal estimates. Also, merchandise sales fell 90% after The Last Jedi’s plot demeaning Luke Skywalker started circulating in the culture and the fan backlash began. The next two movies after TLJ were actual full on flops and merch sales died. There hasn’t been a film for 3 years now.

The Disney Plus stuff is decent though. They should just stick to the New Republic/ Luke’s Jedi Order Era for the foreseeable future or go back to the High Republic.
