Was James Spader really a "Heartthrob" in the 90s? I just don't see it. This fucking dweeb right here?
I was watchin the first episode of Buffy the vampire slayer, never got around to watching it. Anyways one of the characters, the I'm guessing Rich hip girl was giving buffy a quiz on whether or not she was cool, and she said "James Spader?" and the correct cool response was "He needs to call me!". Was this like a grunge thing or something? Nerdy guys were definitely not even in in the 90s.
In my mind he's always been Shatner's buddy in Boston Legal, which is an old show with an old audience. I watched it with my parents who are literal boomers. Spader's never been hip.
Eli Torres
Wow, he had another show after Star Trek? I never knew that. When was that?
Carter Cruz
>Was James Spader really a "Heartthrob" in the 90s? He always played a snobby dickhead in the 80s
more like late-80s but definitely. ever since pretty in pink.
Owen Foster
Mid 2000s, as for Star Trek actors Odo is in it as well. Anyway the Shat's been in lots of stuff since Trek, he had a fun role in Miss Congeniality and its sequel.
Gavin Allen
But 90s teenagers wouldn't have known him from his 80s stuff though. That dog don't hunt.
We are left to believe that Teenage girls were fawning over James Spader from Crash and Stargate. That's the joke that Joss Whedon is making...
Teenagers fawning over a nerdy actor. What did he mean by this?
Kayden Morgan
yeah they would, movies kicked around for at least a decade in the theater->secondary run theaters->cable->broadcast tv pipeline back then.
>But 90s teenagers wouldn't have known him from his 80s stuff though. That dog don't hunt. Assuming people in the 90s didn't have video tapes, TV, or parents, yeah.
Parker Johnson
john hughes was never not a massive thing
Henry Rodriguez
looks like classic paul dano in this role
Jackson Gray
>That's the joke that Joss Whedon is making... there's your problem. also he cast Spader as the voice of Ultron in Avengers so he probably had a hard on for the guy
John Sanders
Paul as Danial in a Stargate remake would be kino
Lincoln Flores
He became 62
John Foster
Did he shave his head for at he Blacklist or did he suddenly go bald? He was on the office the year before and still had hair seemed weird how he suddenly went full chrome dome.
This is why he was a heartthrob. Stef from Pretty in Pink. The choice was Stef or Blaine, most girls thought Molly Ringwald’s character was out of her mind for choosing ugly weirdo Andrew McCarthy.
Hunter Garcia
I look like him wtf
Caleb Moore
Is that Judge Reinhold?
Angel Wood
She wouldn’t be needed but she’d be black
Michael Watson
Not really. He was just buddies with other heartthrobs like Rob Lowe and Johnny Depp. The 90s generally skewed younger as a whole though. Leo DiCaprio, Joey Lawrence, JTT, Keanu Reeves.
3>1>2 There's something about a man that's satisfied with himself that gives a +5 to the rating.

Teenagers weren't as generationally isolated as they are today. Most of us grew up watching movies our parents and older siblings liked. There was a broader common pop culture we all shared. >fawning over Spader in Crash Nobody saw this movie in the 90's. Whedon grew up in the late 70's and 80's. Nothing any of the characters in Buffy say is realistic. It's a show with mannered dialogue and performances, and was written by an annoying geek. You might as well complain that the hitman in Pulp Fiction don't talk like actual hitmen.
