Yesterday's kids films were Alvin and the Chipmunks, Smurfs etc. Sonic takes the genre and combines it with capeshit, which is a smart direction to go in. Sprinkle on a bit of publicity from a controversy and you've got a surefire hit.

I think the dance off scene was a mostly needless rehash of the barfight scene from the first movie, and pretty much the entire wedding sequence could have been cut to put the movie under 2 hours.

Snowboard scene was good, did not disappoint.

Saw it this afternoon, I think it would actually have been better than the first movie if they had just cut the unnecessary wedding stuff with the black sister. There were some good jokes in that subplot but it was a lot of wasted time spent without the main characters, robotnik, or anything the advanced the plot. Also shameless product placement for the 4seasons, but not as bad as zillow in the first movie.

Over 7/10 needed more robotnik, as all things do.

No there aren't any X-Men in it.
