Most competent bands know standards and if someone starts singing one, they can do that. The first part was entirely a capella. I'm not hip enough to know if “Shadows of the Night” by Pat Benatar counts as a "standard" that a band at an Ersatz NASA gala would automatically know but that's your answer.

The first four seasons or so of DS9 are a filter to test the weak.
It didn't really start to get anywhere till they got the defiant and started going on adventures. And then it finally really started getting good once the dominion war kicks off, and the rest is unadulterated kino.

Honestly 4 is a noticable uptick, but they get the Defiant in Season 3x01, and desu the end of Season 2 is pretty fucking kino as it introduces the villains for the rest of the show. So I'd literally watch the pilot, skip to the end of 2 and go from there.

"Standards" are whatever an ordinarily competent band is expected to know in a particular context. Apparently Shadows of the Night is a standard for this particular context in 2024 LA.
