Waterworld was incredible. It fits perfectly alongside Mad Max but Costner brings his own unique Americana to the genre.
Before the internet "film critics" controlled the destiny of movies. In the 90's the film critic cabal decided they needed to cancel Kevin Costner so they started a campaign to bomb his movies.
To this day I'm not sure what exactly Costner did to piss off the industry but it wouldn't surprise me to learn that it had something to do with politics, or him not giving certain slum lord producers a piece of his movies.
