Finally the directors cut gets the praise it deserves. I saw TMP in theaters in 2019 before COVID and the only people in the theater were me my brother and a fat guy. Can't wait to watch tonight in 4K

looks good

Did it need one? I liked the regular version.

They fixed some shitty FX that were half done in the original, and tighted up the pacing so its less of a bore. There's a comparsion vid on yt if you care to see. imo if you havent seen the movie in a while watch the DC and if you think its fine then there you go. they made the DC back in 2001 but all the extra effects were hard coded at 480i so it never got a proper rerelease until now

Did they remove the old bridge TV series ping ping ping sound effects at the end of the film? I hated that they added that in the DC.

How does it compared to the Tron soundtrack version?

How much of a difference does this "Director's Edition" make? Do they just touch up the effects or do they cut scenes and speed up the pace overall?

The film was NEVER meant to be a star Wars action film so get over yourselves DO NOT WATCH IT. If any TV to Movie IP deserved those beautiful effects shots it was Star Trek.

lots of effects added. mostly to mattes, so sorry matte lovers, also some cleaned up shots like the hexagon bridge forming or showing exterior shots of the enterprise. honestly its pretty seamless, we'll see how the 4K remade from scatch versions look

Attached: tmpcompare1.webm (633x337, 1.02M)

added in some effects that they ran out of time on during the original production

Also 20 years later revisionist cuts of films are bad. This isn't Wise's original vision, it's what he felt like editing together a whole generation and some change later.

At least Wise was directly involved and not some random writer or producer who felt like making it his vision

Wanna watch but dude a pedo so kinda ruins it.

literally the worst star trek film

he wasnt a pedo then :)

He was.

No and they shouldn't.

Nemesis would like a word with you.

way better than this turd

Exterior shots of some computer model or did they have unused footage of the old model?

Strange New Worlds didn't need a new Enterprise. She is perfect the way she is.

until recently i thought it was an old model shot but apparently its CGI. probably some of the best ive ever seen given the lighting matches almost like the real thing

Nice. I think I'll watch it tonite. Looks great.

Nah Generations is the worst

defiantly the most interesting trek

is this shit on paramount+?

Yeah or you can wait to torrent it in a week. I’m watching it now, so far it looks great, they didn’t recomposite the scenes though (like the 4K original version) so sometimes you get weird flickering edges of models against a background

>OH NO

>torrent it in a week
or a few days ago

For some reason I’m only getting a Dolby digital 2.0 audio track. wtf

>Nah Generations is the worst
kirks kino last words make up for it

>is this shit on paramount+?
>Yeah

How do you even know? Im on there right now and it doesnt say shit about being new or redone or anything. Also in order to find star trek movies you have to search manually for them? They dont even have a Star Trek brand page. How could they fail so hard?

I know you have to search it, near the bottom of the list after all the movies you’ll see r with the colored poster art, and it will say directors edition. I’m watching it right now

Got that 12 minutes of footage like the Laserdisc?

omg what a nightmare (i see the director's cut version now at the bottom) people need to be fired this is so stupid lol

Unfortunately no, the DC is somewhere in the middle. Some times it less scenes than the original sometimes it has more scenes but less than the 12 minutes SLV version.

It was distracting as fuck. I saw ST TMP in the theaters on its premiere and it was wonderful interms of new sound design the DC added and removed a few thing that I didn't think needed.

They moved the backdrop of the lounge up higher to be behind the bridge

Good. I always knew that it was off.

Everything after ST TMP is the worst. Yea i know Trek 2- Star Wars. Just doesn't cut it for me especially all the Space Battlehsip Yamato battle scenes I keep seeing including the Mutara Nebula explosion's which is straight out of Beforever Yamato 1980.

lol Kirk making fun of Scotties accent is very dated now.

Theyre characters are friends. Something Kirk would have done.

Attached: 1591405736241.jpg (800x1114, 468.57K)

it doesnt make any sense. Kirk has known Scotty so long by the time TMP happens. It's clearly written in 1979 when americans thought accents were funny because they were so sheltered and racist.

Nah, your just frightened of todays PC community. Within the context of the Trek family this is fine.

Can someone tell me what the fuck the "cloud" is supposed to be around vger?

good call, i figured those tall windows had to be for something

Attached: file.png (714x660, 359.7K)

Is this the star trek movie where they save the wahles in faggot Frisco? If so great film

An Energy barrier.

All the V'ger scenes on the big screen was spectacular.

Attached: Vger_cloud.jpg (714x310, 18.38K)

Thoughts so far:
All the scenes showing the vger cloud layers look fantastic
The remade CGI shots look on-par with the rest of the film, no marvel-tier cinematics
The film scan is great, the original DC had a greenish tint to the film
For some reason paramount+ is not showing the HDR version nor offering anything other than 2.0 DD so cant comment on that.

I like this movie fine, but the changes to the new release are unnecessary

Wise died in 2005, he has nothing to do with the new director’s director’s director’s cut

I'm a big fan of this film (I know it's flawed, but I grew up watching it a lot and it has a place in my heart), and frankly I'm disappointed in what they've done, at least in the streaming version. Shot quality varies widely, one scene will look sharp and great, the next scene will look straight out of 1979. There's still rampant matteing errors around the ships, and the grain of the film seems to randomly vary too. I'll get it on BluRay when it comes out, and hopefully that will look better but maybe there's only so much you can do visually to fix a movie from 43 years ago.

Same. I saw it on the premier and it was an event then whole audience was cheering and oohing an ahhing. Was wonderful. I was so glad that it wasn't anything like star wars.
