That's could be a younger photo of him. If he lost some weight, aged, and his hairline stopped receding (completely believable, plenty of men stop where he is, you see plenty of 80 year olds with that look.) If after that he grew his hair out longer (forgoing grooming is very common in a mental health episode), it could possibly be him. Doesn't matter anyway.
