/Bible Kino General/

Thread for the discussion of Christian cinema.

Optional topic: Are stories about Christ better if they are focused on Christ as the protagonist, or from the point of view of those who come into contact with Him?

Francis of Assisi is a good Christian kino

>tips fedora

>Sneed

woah, based

A Sisyphus and Jesus buddy cop in heaven and hell would be kino. With cameos of Dante

that's a cute comic

this thread will become an endless spam fest because people on this website are mentally teenagers forever, but in response to your optional topic; both have their place but I typically enjoy older films that don't even fully depict him. it adds a reverence that explorations of christ as an actual person can never have.

probably the latter. because with the former you sometimes end up with god cop.

BEEP BEEP, kino coming through

>or from the point of view of those who come into contact with Him?

I like this one better. I'm not religious but it seems pretty hard to portray such a historically significant religious figure. Something like Ben Hur portrays religious figures well.

A little corny here and there but overall quite good. Definitely worth a watch.

I really hate this show

Umberto Eco is peak cringe.

Sounds like a (You) problem.

Not that user. I read some Umberto Eco. Why is he peak cringe? Genuinely curious. I found his work okay but nothing that inspired me to read on.

The movie Patton has a bona fide Christian miracle in it that is 100% historically accurate. General Patton ordered the Third Army chaplain to draft a "weather prayer" and distribute it to the entire Third Army and ordered them to pray it during the Battle of the Bulge so they could get to Bastogne to relieve the 101st Airborne who were trapped behind enemy lines.

The Third Army soldiers prayed the prayer and the weather miraculously changed against all meteorological forecasts. The Third Army stormed through the German lines, rescued the 101st, and pretty much ended Germany's warfighting capabilities for the duration of the war.

Patton had his chaplain decorated with the Bronze Star for writing the prayer. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Hugh_O'Neill

based bibble

Why?

neat

It's a little cheap and has the cinematography of a Hulu production but the writing is surprisingly good.

I love films that are "incidentally" Christian.
For example, Pitch Black, the first Riddick movie, has a lot of these themes, redemption, self sacrifice, serving others for a greater cause than your own life. I love that film.
>There is my God, Mr Riddick

He was an atheist.

I'll add to that list:

ALIEN, BLADE RUNNER, ROCKY (not really accidental I guess), THE MATRIX (attempted to deconstruct Christianity but fucked up and made it good instead, the sequels did deconstruct though).

It gets credit for a realistic depiction of a time period assault, with shield walls and plebs just hucking rocks, cause real weapons are hard to come by

Brideshead Revisited checks several boxes for me. Interwar kino, Catholic kino, and Jeremy Irons kino. The show does make it even gayer than the book, though, and the book was plenty fruity to start with.

I had a Hollywood film idea. It's called Gethsemane, with Liam Neeson. No idea what the story is yet. The poster could be Neeson wearing a biblical robe, looking pensive. In his left hand, a pair of rosary beads. In his right, a Glock 9 composite compact firearm.

What a dumb image

Is it just the action movie derivative of Calvary in your mind?

>engaging with idiots
user...

Probably wouldn't go that hard on Eco.

fpbp

Uhh bros... I don't think that was God they were praying to...

More Polish kino.
