Some media just has that power. I know playing life is strange games, a night in the woods, they heavily rely on "golden afternoons" of summer which invokes the endless youth, or they delve into fallstalgia. It just blends well of endless summer/the coming of winter, the end of youth.
As for Daria, you watch it and you can tell it was a simpler time. Tech didn't control everything, characters have to interact with others, not everything is a meme. They took that away from you.
