Explain to me how the USSR developed its economy from that of a backwards feudal state to a modern industrial superpower in the span of 30 years, rivaling capitalist economies that had been developing for hundreds of years. Also, read Polanyi, markets were a steadily guided phenomena by the state. In pretty much all stateless societies, communal property norms prevailed as opposed to markets.

because they replicated a significant amount of what the West and industry had already developed/perfected. they were poor at innovating the market because gov-like structures are poor at creativity and responding to environmental change, and gov-like structures are what ran their economy.

I would say Germany had a successful socialist program in the 1930s. However in terms of material power, it was unable to compete with the capitalist order on the field of battle. However money isn't everything
