waste of time

you can just read nietzsche and kant in the time it takes to mediatate

no i kant lol

Its extremely healthy to silence your mind through meditation or prayer. Your train of thought carries a lot of baggage that can be shed

Fine if practiced within the context of an orthodox spiritual tradition. Pathetic and sad if used by a secular westerner as a cope.

Correct
Wrong

It means contemplation. 'no-mind' as it is commonly portrayed is a particular practice. Basically 'just use your mind bro' but do it with passion to some ideal. Calming your mind is important but it allows less savory thoughts to come through clearer, which not everyone can easily deal with. A good substitute is to also push in positive thoughts that relate to yourself.

Being able to focus is good and can be practiced. That's literal all there is to it.

I tried some guided daoist meditation a week or so back, when the guide started talking about how I'm doing nothing (it's based on wu wei) I got real existential and it took me way out of it. I went into a full blown panic.
Now I know I would probably benefit from some meditation. But I need to find some better routine that doesn't scare me into some existential crisis.

Anyone here read Awakening the Third Eye by Sam Sagan? A podcast I was listening to highly recommended it.

Have not. But out of curiosity, what podcast?

Right Wing Dharma Squads.

Literally just the skill of detachment. Kind of quirky and fickle cause you can't approach honing it through attachment, which for many is all they know at first, but ultimately provides great benefits. No metaphysical significance beyond your average metaphysical significance. Make of it what you may.

Meditation is a useless umbrella term loosely grouping together vaguely similar practices from a wide variety of traditions; nothing meaningful can be said about it unless you're more specific.

>(((Sagan)))
Stopped reading there.

Mind can be trained in a same way as the muscles and motorics. Meditation in partical is about maintaining focus, silencing your inner dialog and wandering thoughts.
The result might be a developed skill of immediate awareness of yourself, which might improve other aspects of your life.

Sitting in an uncomfortable jackass position and closing your eyes for an hour to impress the stoner girl and hopefully get laid

A way for a retard for feel like a genius for sitting around doing nothing. It's hilarious how they harp on about ego and attachment but the people who are drawn to this kind of thing have the biggest egos in the world.

We were saying, then, If to any man the tumult of the flesh were silenced — silenced the phantasies of earth, waters, and air — silenced, too, the poles; yea, the very soul be silenced to herself, and go beyond herself by not thinking of herself — silenced fancies and imaginary revelations, every tongue, and every sign, and whatsoever exists by passing away, since, if any could hearken, all these say, We created not ourselves, but were created by Him who abides for ever: If, having uttered this, they now should be silenced, having only quickened our ears to Him who created them, and He alone speak not by them, but by Himself, that we may hear His word, not by fleshly tongue, nor angelic voice, nor sound of thunder, nor the obscurity of a similitude, but might hear Him — Him whom in these we love— without these, like as we two now strained ourselves, and with rapid thought touched on that Eternal Wisdom which remains over all. If this could be sustained, and other visions of a far different kind be withdrawn, and this one ravish, and absorb, and envelope its beholder amid these inward joys, so that his life might be eternally like that one moment of knowledge which we now sighed after, were not this Enter into the joy of Your Lord?

All these Buddhist fags in here giving you bad info. Meditation isn’t one thing and it isn’t defined by one religion. There are tons of possible experiences and techniques and practices of meditation. Many are beneficial, others are harmful and may turn you into a Buddhist drone with no emotions.

Ultimately retarded and possibly dangerous practice grown out of misguided ideas about the nature of human mind. A meditator (usually either a vegan looking white male, or a dirty brown indian with a rapey vibe) will tell you that meditation helps with silencing the interfering thoughts, helping to build focus, and growing a few inches on your penile length. The problem here is twofold:
1. Meditators immediately brand our minds as defective and in dire need of repair so they can keep selling their orient snake oil, yet no effort is made to clarify exactly why (except, cue in babbling about achieving sansara, nirvana, bankai etc etc). Neurotic westerners buy into this shit because they already buy antidepressants. In truth, however, there's a strong argument in favour of these 'invasive thoughts' as the basis of our creative thinking. What seems to us as a bothersome mind noise is actually the mechanism of continuous subconscious analysis. Meditation suggests to stifle that for no good reason.
2. Meditation offers no real, trackable benefits besides anecdotal impressions, which puts it firmly into sorta religion sorta placebo category. No meditation guru ever demonstrated impressive academic achievements or anything which could be described as 'heightened' intellect. Any benefits, real benefits of meditation can be replicated with any other relaxing, repetitive activities, like bookreading, masturbation, or gardening. And I would suggest reading a great book over sitting in gay pose thinking of breath any day. Don't waste your time, life's too fucking short to be gay and stupid.

It's evil. Watch these videos to understand why meditation is a frivolous nonsensical practice. The second video link goes right into it

>stop eating all the time so your body can digest what you eat!
>stop thinking all the time so your mind can assimilate what you experience!

and go mad like niccha. um no thanks

Your mind should be the most sanctuary. Meditation helps clean up the mess you made and prevents further mess if you consistently tidy up the place

Start by practicing Zazen, yoga or any other form that works for you and appeals to you. Meditating itself will be what allows you to redpill yourself

>Start by practicing Zazen, yoga or any other form that works for you and appeals to you. Meditating itself will be what allows you to redpill yourself

Former Zazen practitioner. Dont listen to this guy, meditation and especially zazen will destroy your back and knees. Meditation reinforces the self which completely contradicts it and permanent biological changes that are unnecessary.

It only clutters it more stealthily. You are trying to free yourself by the self only strengthening the self. There is no technique

Think of it like you would physical exercise. Most people can't bench 200 lbs without training. Most people can't silence their thoughts for 10 seconds without training. Meditation helps hone your thinking into a useful tool as opposed to the uncontrollable beast that they can otherwise be. In the same way, physical exercise hones your body into a useful tool as opposed to a hindrance.

Q: Meditation seems less repetitive, deeper than ordinary thought. Yet it is unsatisfying.

U.G.: If your meditations, sadhanas, methods and techniques meant anything, you wouldn't be here asking these questions. They are all means for you to bring about change. I maintain that there is nothing to change or transform. You accept that there is something to change as an article of faith. You never question the existence of the one who is to be changed. The whole mystique of enlightenment is based upon the idea of transforming yourself. I cannot convey or transmit my certainty that you and all the authorities down through the centuries are false. They and the spiritual goods they peddle are utterly false. Because I cannot communicate this certainty to you it would be useless and artificial for me to get up on a platform and hold forth. I prefer to talk informally; I just talk, "Nice meeting you."

>I maintain there is nothing to change or transform.
This is correct and is discussed in many of the Zen classics. Many realize it through meditation. The idea is ancient.

The true redpill is that normal concentration based meditation that helps you stay in the now is cucked.

"Staying present" is cool but it is a cope for not dealing with what is causing your negative thoughts in the first place.

Look up pranic breathing, Letting Go by David Hawkins, Sedona Method, and Lester Levenson. Also trauma therapy. That's what really helps

Just dont get the std he had, youll be fine

>creates religion in order to proletzye others to something

It's funny isn't it?

It's like psychically spreading your cheeks for spiritual forces to fuck you without a rubber.

Yes. It's my favorite joke. The punchline always gets me.

meditation outside a philosophical context (ala Sam harris and materialist faggots) is just navel gazing/relaxation. might as well watch ASMR vids.

meditation within a buddhist/hindu context is prelest and opens you up to mental problems and spiritual delusion. It will seem very HELPFUL at first, but in the long run it will damage you.
I used to meditate for decades, until God woke me up from it and now I'm Christian.

Repentance + Prayer and bible readings > sitting erect, watching your mind wander and subscribing to a fundamentally nihilist, reality-denying, God-denying relativist eastern philosophy

Kill yourself faggot.

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
I serve my True Guru with single-minded devotion, and lovingly focus my consciousness on Him.
The True Guru is the mind's desire and the sacred shrine of pilgrimage, for those unto whom He has given this understanding.
The blessings of the wishes of the mind are obtained, and the fruits of one's desires.
Meditate on the Name, worship the Name, and through the Name, you shall be absorbed in intuitive peace and poise. ||1||

O my mind, drink in the Sublime Essence of the Lord, and your thirst shall be quenched.
Those Gurmukhs who have tasted it remain intuitively absorbed in the Lord. ||1||Pause||

Those who serve the True Guru obtain the Treasure of the Naam.
Deep within, they are drenched with the Essence of the Lord, and the egotistical pride of the mind is subdued.
The heart-lotus blossoms forth, and they intuitively center themselves in meditation.
Their minds become pure, and they remain immersed in the Lord; they are honored in His Court. ||2||

>Sri Guru Granth Sahib

Meditate on Him, O my soul; He is the Supreme Lord over kings and emperors.
Place the hopes of your mind in the One, in whom all have faith.
Give up all your clever tricks, and grasp the Feet of the Guru. ||1||

O my mind, chant the Name with intuitive peace and poise.
Twenty-four hours a day, meditate on God. Constantly sing the Glories of the Lord of the Universe. ||1||Pause||

Seek His Shelter, O my mind; there is no other as Great as He.
Remembering Him in meditation, a profound peace is obtained. Pain and suffering will not touch you at all.
Forever and ever, work for God; He is our True Lord and Master. ||2||

dude, mediation as a practice produces survivors and they are all happy to tell you how it worked

At the very least, consistent meditation will make you a little less stressed and a little more calm. At the most, it will transform you and lead you to the ultimate truth of your nature
