Strange you want a lifestyle to read but you dont even read

A countryside ranger where there aren't a lot of people is your best bet. See no one except fellow rangers for weeks on end. Can read all day and just walk around the countryside.

I’d an office job once that increased my reading hours. I just read while everyone else were on social media because I was too paranoid to access anything and for not having an active presence on those.

Security guards who do night shifts basically just sit around for 8/9 hours doing nothing at all except for an occasional round, sometimes not even that.

I work by myself doing parts assembly. I just listen to music, podcasts and audiobooks and sometimes browse social media while I get paid $15/hr. The job kind of sucks but I don't need to stand on my feet.

I was placed in the barracks guard during my countries mandatory military service. You have a lot of time to read there because nothing ever happens in my country. I would not recommend that job at all though, it's utterly boring and hard not to feel useless.

I worked somewhere under constant CCTV surveillance and told the boss that when I'm on downtime I will be reading on my phone, he was cool with that. Truth is I was also playing a bit of Clash of Clans. Anyway, if you don't speak up for yourself then they'll walk all over you and they really don't give a fuck if you're standing at attention all day and are dead at 45. Just don't ever be afraid to walk out if the conditions aren't to your liking, I've even quit jobs when I really needed the money but I justified it because the conditions were oppressive and it was wearing me out.
Not all employers are psychopaths either.

I rent bicycles, boats, buggies. I'm always outside, have a little table for myself under a beach umbrella and I can read when no customers are here. It's busy 2 months in the year, july and august and even then I have plenty of time in the morning.

night shift security is great for reading because not only is there a lot of time when nothing is happening it visually demonstrates to your boss that you're awake. and if you're even vaguely responsible and reliable no one will stop you since the average security guard is generally a shitty worker

you should try reading 'how to read a book' by mortimer adler; i used to have the same problem but got over it as i started to follow his rules, now i can just pick up a book anytime & keep my mind on it

Military aircraft technician here. My job is like 50% just being on location and i spend a lot of time in transit. Working on planes also means guaranteed rest and minimal buttfuckery.
Granted i need my shit together the rest of the time but i like that aspect too.

Get yourself a deskjob or civilian security in the airforce and you'll be cruising, there are so many people who just sit around doing nothing it's mind boggling.

Maybe in london or something. But if you live in a small town it is super common. I worked at a historic site and read alone a ton. I worked at a slow restaurant and read a ton. If you have a buisy job, there probably will be be an incentive to do something, but primarily passive jobs allow it in spades. it can actually get kind of boring.

I worked as a tech support and sometimes had hours of downtime, but if you try and do something meaningful, an obligation will pop up eventually and it's going to be a really bad feeling having to go back to the grind.
