Is this a legitimately good book or it just some gay bookworm meme?
Is this a legitimately good book or it just some gay bookworm meme?
both
It's a legitimately terrible book and a sign of the corruption of elite intellectual culture that occurred around that time.
Why do you think it's terrible? Do you not like modernism in general?
You’re a faggot and you won’t like it, but it’s good
It is good.
Based.
Art is dead because of everyone who thinks this and shit like it is good.
it's a legitimately good book if you are a gay bookworm
"I didn't like it and everyone who did is just pretending. Art is dead and my opinion is truly objective"
Hark this nerd
It's shit, kept alive by academics who hate themselves and non-academic elitists who equate suffering with nobility. Joyce was a fart-smelling nihilist, and his oeuvre is fart-smelling nihilism. Apart from the Sirens chapter, which he only did to spite those who care about good literature, it is entirely "tee-hee, what am I referencing now, LMAO". It is the Family Guy of literature. Its spiritual successor is, unironically, Ready Player One. Woolf called it "a queasy undergraduate scratching his pimples" and this is the most apt characterization of any piece of art ever uttered in the history of mankind.
This. Infinitely this.
Love when retards characterize a life-affirming work that seeks to elevate the everyday to the plane of the mythological through a retrospective refashioning of some of mankind's greatest artistic achievements as a nihilistic jerk-off session. .
All he manages to do is profane the mythological, not elevate the everyday. His protege, his son-in-law, wrote Waiting for Godot. Do not delude yourself.
This. So much this.
Yes.
ive read maybe a third of it and cant remember any of it
i couldnt work out what was going on like at all
yes
It's very funny.
>All he manages to do is profane the mythological,
You sir, are out of touch with your humanity
Joyce used the mythological to enhance the inherently fragile nature of human life and the perversness of the modern world
And stop wanking off so hard to homer, the modern world sucks but running to the world of myth is just rejecting your fellow man
>His protege, his son-in-law, wrote Waiting for Godot.
And aristotle was plato's student
Your point?
It's good, maybe the greatest novel ever written, but it makes demands on its readers that more casual readers find off-putting.
it's nonsense.
It would be better if it was more politically reactionary, so I could insert myself into threads about it and fish for attention.
>It is the Family Guy of literature.
Thanks user now I gotta read it
Couldn't have said it better
It's a terrible book. Read "Dubliners" if you're going to read Joyce at all.
Yea Forums is all to happy to hate on this book now that they've drunk the traditionalist koolaid of thinkers like Guenon and Evola, but the truth is it just gives them an easy excuse not to read it. The old Yea Forums wouldn't use such a lazy cop-out of "moral degeneracy", because the old Yea Forums is fully aware of its own position as part off an equally degenerate board. Get the fuck off your high horses, fellas, this book is good and no amount of grandstanding by fucking Yea Forums of all places is going to change that.
probably this except it is not gay
I dropped it at 200-something pages because I couldn’t understand half the references that Joyce kept throwing over my head. The prose was amazing, though. That first chapter was something else.
it digs on masons and jews and other sensitive political stuff so I'm assuming that's where most of the hate comes from. i'm having a lot of fun with it.
It’s a fantastic book full of life and humanity
>all these plebs FILTERED so hard they now exist in a lower dimension
OH NONONONO HAHAHAHA
You sound like the retarded women on Goodreads who give a book one star because it has the word "nigger" in it. I think Vonnegut is more your speed.
So you say although I'm fairly sure there's some stuff in the Mathnawi that is even racier than anything you've mentioned here.
fucking filtered.
good post
bullshit post, Beckett was nothing but a soulless epigone of Joyce. The fact that people consider them equals is insulting.
