He kept putting his hands together and tried to show how they were "identical" and kept failing (because they're not) and then got angry and stormed out of the house. I haven't seen him since (this was about a day ago) and texted him and haven't heard back.

Yes, IN THEORY. But this has not been established in practice and honestly they probably aren't, the theory is an abstraction. EnM is deeply flawed, one of the consequences of its description of electrons for example is that if you compute an integral to measure the energy at the position of an electron it comes out to infinite. Clearly that's fucking retarded, I recall my EnM professor explaining that it was a "great embarrassment to the theory".
Hands being opposite but also identical clearly refers to them looking exactly the same. You can't superimpose them, sure, but chirality itself is supposed to account for this odd property of things being the mirror image of each other but not being superimposable, she was just unable to see past her husband's semantic use of "identical".
