Isn't this the fundamental principle of evolution and adaptation?

That's honestly the dumbest thing I've read today, and I spent half an hour browsing Twitter this morning. How did he come to such a ridiculous conclusion? How could a fly desire to take the shape of a fly before existing? When and where does this decision-making even happen? It doesn't even take into account that many animals have different structures while having similar 'modes of life'. It's pure fantasy.

No, evolution is the other way around. A random mutation appears in the genetic material an individual inherits that makes them more fit (or not) for their environment. As this individual spreads it’s genes and more of the population has these genes, that’s when the population is evolving

Based schoppy. The created thing is created before it´s created. Because in the grand scheme there is only human deliniation of categories. No such thing exists a priori. So the substance of creatures is it´s own expression.

Sure but to say that this is somehow a conscious desire and not the result of the unconscious process of the Will seems a bit off.

>unconscious process of the Will seems a bit off.

The Will is manifested through action. Action presupposes choice.

It's a feedback loop between the genes in an organism, the gene pool of the population, and the environment, and it plays out in complex as fuck ways that people try to map with things like game theory.

Action can be the result of want and want is not a conscious choice.

GIRAFFES HAVE LONG NECKS BECAUSE OF THEIR OWN VOLITION

yes, due to their volition to feed off from the tall trees

This is why I love Schopenhauer. Every time I think he could not be more based... Bang! He delights me with another based insight. Reading him is a pleasure, it's like reading my own thoughts before I have them

Schopenhauer was a genius....you have not read the rest his work, so you cannot comment on this. He is describing his conception of an underlying will that moves beneath the phenomena of nature that objectifies itself in organisms. All this before Darwin btw.

it's an explanation of evolution and inherited information. read plato and kant before schope

I don't have to read anything else to know that it's nonsense. He was wrong, period.

Okay. You seem egobruised about it. I'm really not invested.

>it's like reading my own thoughts before I have them
That's the second funniest shit i've seem a basement dweller write iml!

He does say "AS IF" meaning he doesn't think animals "planed" themselves what they will eat and how to do it. But he just underlines the fact that animals bodies are adapted to the environment they live in "as if" planed or decided by a will of some sort. The need to reach for high trees appeared first before Giraffes and their body slowly evolved to meet that need. The body evolved because only those with already long necks survived and breed with others with longer and longer necks until the body reached, "as if" by choice the optimum design to live in the savanna. Bear in mind this idea was before Darwin and before Freud and the subconscious so of course it might seem a bit rough today but it is still very sharp for it's time.
