Read books about ethics or ethical experts (or just grad students in ethics, really)

>read books about ethics or ethical experts (or just grad students in ethics, really)
>then read up on their personal life or views
>turns out they're almost always extremely vile assholes who want to justify their own hatred with ethical systems so they can celebrate when their enemies die of cancer.
People keep saying "hurrr you need ethics or else you'll end up like Heidegger" but the more i interacted with ethicists, the more i grew to hate them. Did i just interact with the wrong people or is this endemic?

People who describe political views as being "an asshole" makes me instantly disregard their opinion

Im talking about gloating when someone with political opinions different from their own develops cancer, for example.
Maybe the best example i personally encountered was someone who was mad that people celebrated Osama Bin Laden's death, but then went out to celebrate when Thatcher died and got furious when people pointed out the hypocrisy.

This was a communist in grad school, btw. No idea why she'd have any sympathy for bin laden

Lukewarm water temperature IQ.

>People who describe political views
OP didn't use the term "political views" but he's still 100% right
>champagne socialists

Thanks senpai

The overwhelming majority of "communists" have never read Marx and just use the label to identify themselves with the "I hate my dad" crowd. This is far more common for females, but a lot of the men do it too.

You're welcome, midwit.

It's like being vegan
Or a male feminist
You're hiding something.
It's eating at You.
Gotta do anything
anything
To make it stop.

Thanks Rupi, didnt expect such clarity from you.

There was an experimental philosophy paper a number of years ago finding that the most stolen book in college libraries was ethics textbooks.

You're
Wellcome
user
:)

Imagine thinking there are "ethicists" "metaphysicians" and "epistemologists"

maybe it's a similar phenomenon to people who are mentally ill studying psychology

Imagine being a fag. Oh wait you dont have to

Yeah, iirc a chief empathy researcher turned out to be a bully and borderline psychopath. Or the Avital Ronell affair, where high leading critical theorists and feminist scholars suddenly used all the tricks and arguments in the book to defend structural power, this time to defend Ronell's reputation when it was obvious she had exploited a student.

Haha this is very true. I'm ashamed to say that I too was a teenage communist. I stopped being one shortly after actually reading Marx

>"epistemologists"
Loads of silicon valley types are beginning to call themselves this. Taleb followers, AI/ML guys, dudes working in "social tech". Seeing the same with ethics popping up in places. The most grating thing is that they don't hire anyone from philosophy backgrounds. It's basically compsci nerds, HR fuckheads, or people with social science degrees.

inb4 seething because I got a degree in philosophy. Yes, I'm mad.

user you should've known that this was the future

What did you specialize in, senpai? Also how's grad school?

>he didn't get a humanities degree with a language and a "studies" and a science degree in math and physics
No chance. I'm like an f'ing chameleon right now.

>The atheist finds himself frustrated again in his effort to recreate what God has eternally ordained.
Ahhhhhh, justice.

>implying the Church today isnt falling apart at the seams.

>I-I-Implying l-lol!
Pathetic. In 40000 AD We will still be here.

>the "I hate my dad" crowd
is almost the same as the left as such.

You're saying it like it would be a good thing

When wisdom meets self-interest, morality is created.

> mad that people celebrated Osama Bin Laden's death
>went out to celebrate when Thatcher died
fucking based
>hypocrisy
there's no hypocrisy there you fucking moron

>t. commie who has strange sympathy for Bin Laden even though Bin Laden was a war criminal who wants you dead

bmup

Maybe related to this topic, but are there thinkers/psychologists who explore the tendency of people who claim to be "moral" or "empathetic" while secretly being rotten and evil from within? I only know of Nietzsche, but i'd rather explore it more, and preferably through the eye of modern psychology.

You're right about this phenomenon, and it's mainly for the simple reason that learning ethics does not change core behavior unless you've achieved a much deeper self awareness. Most people that want to learn about ethics do so because they are subconsciously aware of a depravity within themselves, but the things they "learn" just rest on the surface of their awareness and do not penetrate any deeper because they don't actually really know themselves.

Nietzche btfos "rational" ethics with this same reason in like the first 10 pages of beyond good and evil when hes saying why philosophers cant be trusted. Nobody really has a genuine "Will to Truth" because they simply want fame, money, or to justify their politics

I did find this:
reason.com/2017/03/01/moral-outrage-is-self-serving/

To the extent that "ethics" and "morality" aren't two words for the same thing, "ethics" is just various justifications to commit immoral acts. With this understanding, an "ethicist" is just someone whose trade is the justification of immorality. That this justification often begins at home, so to speak, should come as no surprise.

Read Witggenstein’s essay on Ethics and Aesthetics, the same spiel that animated Anscombe to kickstart the vortue ethics revival that later produced MacIntyre. tl;dr it’s turtle’s all the way down man dont feel bad.
