I remember first hearing 'Imagine' as a teenager and reading the lyrics and feeling that the lines about 'nothing to kill or die for' was bad. I thought that it was noble to kill or die for good values and I still do; if you don't value something as higher than human life then when life gets too shit there's nothing to keep living for.
I always thought that I was weird and didn't understand why people didn't have a problem with this ethic and why they embraced it. Having people express what I was thinking online is so cathartic. I think that's why right-wing YouTubers are so popular. A LOT of people, particularly in middle-class urban/metropolitan areas, are secretly right-wing but never talk about it and when they hear people like Shapiro talk they feel validated.

From Edmund Burke to Roger Scruton there is a long history of interesting conservative philosophy. People just enjoy Ben Shaprio because his arguments and ideas are very easy to understand, he expresses them well and with effective style and because they gain a sense of schadenfreude at the pompous lefty idpol 18/19 year olds being made to look stupid.
High level political philosophy, as well as intellectual pursuits in general, has always been the domain of a small portion of the populace. Throughout history, most people couldn't even read. We should never dismay that most people don't read books. Most common people just want bread and circuses; they always have and they always will. Ben Shapiro is fun, sassy and entertaining. Let the masses have their fun guy.
