Hey guys, just recently got back into reading. However, its taking me really long to read a page , like almost 5 minutes, its discouraging even though i enjoy it if that makes sense. I cant help but feel like im wasteing time.

What are some ways to read faster, but also at the same time absorb the same amount of information?

This was a somewhat interesting essay regarding moralisation of reading. His ethics are aimed towards strictly academic work, but I feel like the same concepts work for literature as well. What context does the writer come from? What is the exigence of their work? How do they fill it? What core themes do they work with? Demonstrate this using the text. Reflective thinking on intention and interpretation. Etc. This might be of interest to you, but it’s more so aimed at students. One take away is for now, don’t worry so much about the exact words themselves and start to worry about the themes and story.

For now I’d recommend that you read books that you can comprehend, nothing too dense, nothing where you don’t get the metaphors and themes; you need to be able to follow the story. Over time you will increase your reading speed and more importantly your skill at thinking rhetorically about lit.

unironically read this. It covers everything from reading comprehension to reading speed.

Git gud

All about mental fitness baby. I wake up in the morning and do a intense 30 minute run, then cold shower to wake myself up. Two generic caffeine pills, toast, scrambled eggs and my coffee while I read the news and essays on non literature. I drink more coffee throughout the day and have 10-15 more caffeine pills depending on the day. I eat healthy carbs and protein for a good supply of fuel throughout the day with lots of fruit and veg. Eat fruit before reading (not apples and grapes, the sugar hits you too quick) and then veggies at night. Every thirty minutes while reading I do 20 burpees to keep my body and mind mentally ready.

All of this is to keep my mind completely primed for thought and learning. When you move into this life style you have to be very methodical. This type of mental activation can be very powerful and addictive. When I first started doing it I would get lost in myself and chase my dog around while I was naked and jacking off (in a friendly amicable way; I love my dog and he loves me). It awakens a primal instinct and unlocks a new power level previously unknown to man.

To fall asleep I take 300 mg of amitriptyline. I started taking it for my BPAD, but since I’ve stopped seeing my psychologist and psychiatrist I’ve stayed on it with help from a friend because it really helps me sleep and I dream the most beautiful dreams when I take it. You want it to hit you as fast as possible because if it stays in your system the creative energies will be dampened in the morning. Grind it up before taking it orally. The coffee will make you urinate more so as soon as your brain is done with it you’ll piss it all out in the morning. Or at least I think that’s how it works I haven’t studied and bio since freshman year undergrad. It works for me.

This method has changed my life and career for the better.

You can also trying making a solvent out of the ground up ami (or smoking or snorting) but smoking is bad for you, I would get painful bruises when I shot up and my sinuses would get all screwy when I snorted.

I hope I haven’t forgotten anything, I’m going to go work out now I’ll be back in 35 to 40 minutes if you have any questions.

Very good creative writing.

Is like to add that the dog thing did start like that. First I would pretend to be a dog with him and he loved it and I slowly ramped up the dog play with him over the course of a few months. Once my mother died in the exact same way my father died I became “disillusioned” with reality and began to question everything. If I am the only sane person on earth, then if I say I am a dog then I am a dog. The dog play became a way of challenging my previous conceptions about the functioning about reality. I also rolled 6 sixes on a die which I took as a sign I had sway over my own reality. In summary the dog thing, while seeming outlandish, was reasonable given the circumstances and I stand by it. I’m typing this as I go to them gym.

I just suck dicks, it's based and fashy and tastes degrassey.

I listen to Touhou metal and vocal mixes at 1.25 - 1.5 speed on youtube. I also shake my leg to the beat of the music. Really helps with productivity

Vaguely reminiscent of Patrick Bateman; very nice, user.

what's your touhou song? mine's broken moon.

I laugh. I laugh at you. Pitiful. Fucking pitiful.

Was really going for that (wasn’t trying for anything really). I just kinda get into character and start warping the smallest occurrences and periods in my life into things they aren’t but seem “interesting”. I get caught up in daydreaming about another life of mine and it feels real in the moment so I can write. Usually my scizoposts are complete crap. But they excite me in the moment, more so that technical examination of some text that I read 5 years ago and I’m not really interested in. Having said that pretty much all posting is boring now.

I'm unironically doing this after being in a similar situation to op. Although, I started with pic related before moving to Greeks.

It was the way you described your routine and self-care rituals. Very Bateman-esque. Not exactly narcissistic like him, though, more schizoid. Anyways, I really enjoy your writing style, user. If you can harness your schizoposting into relatively coherent sentences, I would read your material for the prose alone.

Extend Ash ~ Hourai Victim is probably my all time favourite. I’ve been playing both U.N. Owen Was Her and Crimson Belvedere Eastern Dream on my acoustic lately and they’ve grown a lot on me. Broken Moon is a good choice, I’ll try to see if I have any good arrangements saved of it.

I imagine it is quite difficult to trancribe a lot of Touhou songs on guitar due to ZUN's love of scales.

I really wouldn't worry too much about the volume of a text you absorb at this current stage. If you enjoy the experience which you say you are, just keep doing what you're doing and over time you'll realise that the sheer act of reading means you'll be able to grasp more in a faster time period. If you focus all your time now on why you aren't reading enough etc you'll just get complacent which will eventually put you off the past time altogether, which we don't want.

if you are using any drugs, stop.
if you need to have you smartphone 24/7 near, stop.
if you fap a lot and watch porn, stop.
and yeah, what guys above wrote, read more.
Last, dont force yourself to read faster, it will come with time
