To begin with you need to get a doctorate in philosophy

It's helpful to get your doctorate and then disdainfully leave academia to prove that your hate of academia isn't sour grapes and also because those letters next to your name will help market your books and philosophical persona

You have to read EVERY SINGLE BOOK posted on the charts that user has posted, in that order, to become a philosopher. There is no cutting corners, you must master EVERYTHING in your quest for enlightenment

>I want to be a philosopher
Sorry, but the only way to do that is to get a PhD in Philosophy at a school that is actually respected, NOT by reading some retarded recommended reading list by random literally whos on 4channel.org.

How old are you? Have you already been to college? Can you afford college?

You just complicated everything even more
How hard is to answer WHERE to start?

hey fren!

Start with the Greeks. You don't need to start with the presocratics but if you really want to check out the Loeb Sextus Empiricus' Outlines of Pyrrhonism. There's a nice summary there.

Aristotle was Plato's student but you should at least read his Organon first before continuing. This will teach you to spot errors in thinking or of language. Ethics and Metaphysics can be read later.

Continue with Plato. Check out the Hackett five dialogues: Euthyphro, Apology, Crito, Meno, Phaedo. It's a single binding and pretty affordable. Or just get the Complete Works omnibus by Cooper. You would be well served by listening to some lectures if you can, I highly *highly* recommend Prof. Sugrue's "Plato, Socrates, and the Dialogues." Cooper's book is one you could read for the rest of your life. You especially want to think about the theory of forms in Republic, especially the form of the good.

Next, Plotinus' Enneads. He writes on the subject of the soul, love, beauty, the universe, the one (the good), etc. This is best enjoyed if you are also studying Catholic philosophy like the apostolic fathers, the New Testament, the catechism, and Aquinas. Their terms are slightly different but the mingling of ideas is so evident and interesting.

Now bring it all together with some comparative mythology to help you recognize the sacred reality: Joseph Campbell's Masks of God, Burkert's Greek Religion, some Uzdavinys, some Girard, some Feser.

Finish with Aquinas' Summa to answer any lingering questions. Congratulations, you are a philosopher... now go live a good life and help others do the same.

Don't read any pagan philosophers of the 20th century, they are fools or satanists.
