Why aren't you studying to be a Renaissance Man, and be proficient in the classics, philosophy, music, art, computer science, mathematics, architecture, occultism and fitness?

I am interested in seven, maybe eight of these. Not sure why computer science is there.

Biographies of Renaissance Man to read and look to for guidance? I have da Vinci, Goethe, and Thomas Young so far

Modernity is the differentiation of spheres you stupid nigger specialisation is an inescapable reality.

Poincare, Thomas Young? Kys cuck

Nobody is denying that specialization is unescapable, but you can still specialize in different areas. Or you could still master some things and be good at others at the same time.

>Died 1912 and 1829 respectively
kek
We might just conceive specialisation (and what constitutes specialisation) differently. In general though society has outstripped the need for jack of all trades individuals (rather, we might characterise society as the *process* of outstripping this need, I don't pretend it's run its entire course). It's not that your idea is impossible, just outdated. Which is the answer to your original question.

Plenty of young white men are interested in gaining a foundational understanding of those things.

... The hapa incels who hang around this board otoh

The mere fact that something isn't necessary is not enough reason not to do something.

You forgot to mention your reddit proficiency and fedora-wearing ability.

I think in social, materialist terms it absolutely is enough reason. I'm not making an ethical point, I'm making a historical one. We live in a world of finite resources after all, and I don't think most people would deny the primacy (or at the very least least huge importance) of necessity in historical development. Hence, the decline of the Renaissance man.

I have an engineering degree
I work in a research lab, currently trying to apply a more rigorous mathematical model to diffusion in the device we’re developing
I could be more well read but I’m working on it
I don’t write enough

I’m trying to be more of a polymath

Because the day has only 24 hours and I won't live to be 1000 years old.

Just go live in a forest with a kindle bro

boobies are the only art and basis of study

LMAO!!!!!!!!!

>Why aren't you studying to be a Renaissance Man
Because no amount of studying will make you travel 450 years back in time.

What I'm striving for right now:
>Fine Arts
>The Greeks and The Romans
>Philosophy
>fucking around with *nix

What I want to add to this:
>Mathematics and Computer Science
>History™
>several languages (right now I am focused on Latin, later I'll get to French, German, and Scottish Gaelic)
>The Craft of Writing
>whatever will finally give me a system where I stop being such a huge fucking sperg
>Fitness
>Music
>Economics, I guess

We're all gonna make it guys, I believe in each and every one of you in this thread.

I've accepted a long time ago that i'm an idiot. I "study" history, philosophy and literature because i seem to understand those concepts and learning more about them brings me great joy. But i am a fool when it comes to anything outside the humanities. Also i draw like a child.

I'm sort of a jack of all trades master of none if that counts.

I need to learn more music theory and practically apply it.

What Da Vinci and Goethe ones did you read?

Because the concept of Renaissance Man is a retarded anachronism. Nowadays skillsets are not distributed in the same way they were back then. Da Vinci was a painter and a engineer and something of an acoustician but

1. he started apprenticeship in a painter's workshop at like 14, so he had basically professiona-level skill by age 18 and was experienced by age 25
2. acoustics and engineering were very underdeveloped, you didn't need a 5-years degree just to know the basics and not be laughed out of the room, and people didn"t expect your prototypes to be built at high cost and tested in real lif situations

The same applies to just about every field.

See for instance: I can read, write and speak 3 languages (though imperfectly for some of them). I'm currently learning Hebrew and I'm slowly building my Basque vocabulary. I'll probably build back the basics of Latin I learnt in highschool at some point. I played guitar for 13 years, now I stopped but the basic reflexes are still there. I studied maths for 10 years and I successfully passed math contests with less than 10% national success rate at masters level. I've read more than 800 books of everything from novels to poetry to philosophy to maths. I've memorized over 5000 verses of poetry and liturgy in four languages, I used to translate poetry for fun and I've written about 30k words of serious -if not necessarily good- content (in two languages) since March. I'm also currently building an industrial-grade implementation of a contemporary statistical method as part of my PhD thesis.

Assuming I really take back my old pursuits why maintaining the current ones, I still wouldn't be a Renaissance man. I'd be a mediocre stat PhD student with a decent background in math and an interest in literature and music.

* while maintaining the current ones

>basque
What for?

Yeah, I always thought this.

It's a lot easier to be a master physicist when gravity hasn't been discovered yet.

Because I'm not being patronised to.
I wish someone would just pay for me to learn about all that shit full time. I'd entertain any rich fuck with conversation for £30k a year.

I've sold my paintings
I've had my poetry published
I've been paid to perform music
I've been signed to a record label
I get paid to teach literature
I work out regularly

While I'm not much in the math/science department I am well rounded as an artist.

Just wait until I refute gravity

It's the only language in Europe that is not related to any other. It's the oldest native language spoken in my country (France). Despite having been surrounded by other languages for hundreds of years it has changed remarkably little. It has a pretty unique but very logical grammar, so learning it is sure to expand your linguistic thinking. The Basques are also pretty based people who pretty much consider you one of their own as long as you speak their language.

I wonder if something like intellectual luxury prostitution exists. Being paid 1000$ an hour for entertaining people with educated ramblings.
I suppose that's basically being a public intellectual. But there must be more private alternatives.

Where can we find some of your works? I'm curious what kind of output a Yea Forumsizen that actually achieve things would produce.

I'm by no means a "big name" but if you're curious here's one of my more recent expiremental songs.

I haven't really "pushed" for anything since my old band broke up, was interested in finishing school. If you find that interesting I'll share some other stuff.

Pic related is a collab painting I recently completed

Who said I'm not? But fuck occultism. It's gay af

I feel like I am working toward that somewhat:
former US special operations
high level of fitness
Well read in Evola and Perennialism
Going to school for CompSci
what else can I add Yea Forums?

You have to actually devote your life to any of those science fields to be proficient in them. What people knew in the Renaissance, you can teach a semi-competent undergrad in a week at most.

>formal US special operations
How did you get into this? Any forums or books you recommend to read to get into this?

Pick up languages btw

>How did you get into this?
Being a naive teenage and no plans after high school.

>Any forums or books you recommend to read to get into this?
/k/ has /meg/ with some decent links but they're so good as to teach you how to get in shape and what to prepare for physically.
As far as my knowledge there is nothing on the internet that can help past that

currently into:
>theology
>psychology
>metaphysics
>epistemology
>sculpting and drawing

want to learn:
>music
>architecture
>math
>law

I also do calisthenics regularly and am vegetarian.

It's not really possible any longer. There is too much knowledge is any field for one man to conquer in one lifetime, let alone multiple fields. Using Computer Science as an example, once you scratch the surface, you realize how vast and deep the ocean is before you. Weather you go into Artificial Intelligence, Networking, Bioinformatics, Robotics, Security -the point is that you can spend your life just mastering this one branch in this one field. It's the same in other fields as well, you can go to school, get your MS & Ph.D. and still feel like a duck in shallow water, barley skimming the surface. It's fun to read about and wonder, but the world has grown too much since those times. John von Neumann was probably as close as you can reasonably get in this age. Hope that made sense.

Bit insecure there aren't you pal? Sure this isn't projection, it's quite specific.

Bestow upon me your blessings, I am but a WORM! WIRTHING IN FILTH BELOW YOUR BEUTY! PRAISE BE TO YE!!

Wow, you'r really cool.

Credited.

Don't worry, as long as you'r confident you can be a great man also.

based chad.

Pls have sex with me UwU

T. Infj Femanon who wants Entp

t. tranny

T. 7/10 brunette

Sure that isn't jealousy? Was a Stacy in school but only because of my looks. If it wasn't for that I would of just been alone most of my high school life. And still a virgin because school was predominantly Christian.

nice LARP
even if it was true brown hair on a white woman maxes attraction scale to 5/10

Sorry babe but I don't sleep with a woman I don't love. Find a guy and settle down, but it just wouldn't work for you. I gotta keep moving, I'm like a Hawk, you gotta let me fly.

>he thinks Liv Tyler in the 90's was a 5/10
Sure blonde hair is nice on a woman (even nicer on a man UwU) but brunette is equal

This is kinda embarrassing. /lit is better than this isn't it? come on now.

Pls! If I can just be with you once I'll never bother you again.

Don't be so desperate, and get off Yea Forums. Besides I'm in Australia it would never work.

You don't study to be a renaissance man, boy. One studies because you are one, it's the other way around. Curiosity is not something you chase it stems from within.

As for your rankings of topics
> classics
Good to know, but an amorphous concept. Won't block your ability.

> philosophy
Of major importance, it's the wellspring of everything else. The drive for general knowledge is central to it.

>music
Optional. Not very many classical renaissance men were musically inclined, although there's nothing excluding the possibility.

>computer science
Worth knowing, but just another branch of knowledge. Although one with supreme relevance to our times.

> mathematics
Very important. If you are not fluent in mathematical calculation and manipulating its symbolisms, you should at least have a literate and clear understanding of the concepts.

> architecture
Optional. Certainly wouldn't hurt and could easily inform other studies. But it's not the pillar to build everything else around.

> occultism
Silly business .

> fitness
Certainly some, like Da Vinci, were known for their robust and active bodies, but others sat around all day and read. Leibnitz in contrast lived almost entirely in his head.

Absolute Chad. You all aught to look at him as an example. Don't ridicule your idol.

How did you know? Occultism is in a separate list, for fitness I have various textbooks, but my next plan is inspired by Overcoming Gravity by Steven Low.

Post some more pages from your document user. I want to learn

My dream is to make enough passive income to sustain a life in the countryside with basic provisions, electricity, and wifi, so I can dedicate my time to writing and improving myself by learning all those things you mentioned. Of course this is near on impossible unless I can start a successful business that will allow me total financial freedom by way of passive income, and if I can overcome the seemingly insurmountable obstacles of laziness and self-indulgence, since it won't be easy to instil such a huge amount of discipline into myself. I don't really expect this to happen but I hope it will.

Lmao, did you really larp as a woman in response to your own post?

Not high IQ enough to master or be proficient at even one.

Thank you my good man, these philistines but show a general calibre of unprecedented refusal of self improvement as if some sort of fantastical effort of change - culminating negatively.

No.

Is this your commonplace book or something else

I've got occultism, philosophy and literature covered as of yet. I've also started learning akkadian and am planning to aquire more knowledge on mathematics in the future.

>that """"art""""
Fuckin' yikes negro

Debuked fuck

Not bad, actually; I was impressed. It's not exactly my type of music, but I appreciate what you're doing. The artwork for the album is nice, too. Good job, user. Actually feel pretty inspired from it.

Also, how old are you? If you don't mind telling. I only ask because I'm insecure

Cringe

>30k words of serious -if not necessarily good- content (in two languages) since March
That's nothing, I write that much every month while doing a st*M master's

basically this. I chose philosophy because it seemed like the most worthwhile to struggle with. I don't understand jack about it though, so how could I move on?

He's so sexy.

Why?

>Renaissance Man
>The Renaissance (UK: /riˈneJsəns/ ri-NAY-sənss, US: /ˈrɛnəsɑːns/ REN-ə-sahnss)[2][a] is a period in European history, covering the span between the 14th and 17th centuries
>computer science
I'm pretty sure what you mean is just someone who's an expert in a diverse range of topics i.e a polymath

renaissance man is a real term

and it refers to a time in which computer weren't a thing, so how would studying computer science make you a renaissance man?

A Renaissance man is timeless, pleb
