The chord did not exist, the development of the various parts was not subornated to the chord that these parts put together could produce; the conception of the parts was horizontal not vertical. The desire, search, and taste for a simultaneous union of different sounds, that is for the chord (complex sound), were gradually made manifest, passing from the consonant perfect chord with a few passing dissonances, to the complicated and persistent dissonances that characterize contemporary music.
At first the art of music sought purity, limpidity and sweetness of sound. Then different sounds were amalgamated, care being taken, however, to caress the ear with gentle harmonies. Today music, as it becomes continually more complicated, strives to amalgamate the most dissonant, strange and harsh sounds. In this way we come ever closer to noise-sound.

i don't remember who said it, but it is a known saying that, if nobody knows about it, it doesn't exist. So our technology, aside from being a tool to create art, is also a means of spreading art. You would have missed out on a lot of art without the internet. I can understand the dread that the age of information brings with it, but I do not understand this regression. If you don't want it, don't use it. Throw away the device you're using to communicate with us.

I'd love to have missed on most art I've been exposed to if it meant living in a pre-reproduction era. Plus, there is no such thing as "going back" by throwing devices or such. Living without technology in the era of technology is not a solution.

Russelo was pretty good. He is one of those people that is largely forgotten but had a huge influence on things to come, especially in music and the first part of The Art of Noise did better to explain and put into context the Futurists than anything else. One of the few places that his work has directly shown into modern times was his painting used on the cover of The Complete Works of Edgard Varese, another largely forgotten artist who was quite well known in his time, quickly forgotten, but had a massive influence on things to come.
