So... what's the consensus on audiobooks?

OKAY if you don't have much time to read
OKAY if you are listening to a work originally of the oral tradition
NOT OKAY as a replacement for reading actual books (unless you fall under the first condition)
NOT OKAY if you are listening to a librivox recording

What if I listen to an audiobook faster than I can read the same material because I hate some sort of learning disability?

Some stories are meant to be heard.

This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain.

OKAY for sleepies?

Depends on the book, some stuff is really easy listen to and absorb while more scientific/philosophic books I find I need to read.

I love going on long walks while listening to audiobooks.

>like to listen to audiobooks at work
>ear gets sore because of head cold
>money stolen

Yui is the type to read audiobooks.

Only if it is genre fiction

>can't learn new words because you can't see the spelling
>Can't read anything even remotely complex since you can't quickly and easily reread a passage
It's only ok if it's the lowest of the low genre fiction

I'm too lazy for actual reading so I just get in bed, close my eyes, and listen to audiobooks all day.

I don't see how that's any lazier than watching movie adaptations, as long as you pay attention to the narration its just a tad different from reading yourself.

I listened to the complete man in yellow and can say it was a great experience.

NOT
READING
Audiobooks should be placed on the Schedule I list of controlled substances. They can only be administered by a trained professional to people who need them (I.e the blind)
People caught with audiobooks without a prescription belong in prison.

Based

I have terrible eyesight but can actually read without my glasses. I still prefer audiobooks since reading tires my eyes and makes me sleepy.

*Schedule II

This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain.

there are rumours of a good librivox recording
i ain't never seen it though
tis' just that: a myth
don't waste yer time chasin' it
*spits*

Plato got it perfectly. fpbp

I fall asleep every night to the Durant audio books on YouTube to learn via osmosis, does that count?

As long as you are fully understanding the content then there's no difference. The only difference I could imagine is that you could highlight a physical book which doesn't make much of a difference. Anyone who says "audiobook bad" is just a pseud soiboy NPC.

The Mysterious Stranger was a good one.

Siddharth is good one.

Nothing.
People learn better while listening to others not seeing words of others.

Isn't that Socrates

anyone else like listening to audiobooks at the gym?
feel like i might as well because otherwise i'm spending 90-120 minutes just working out when i could be consuming some knowledge as well

I listened to a decent chunk of 1984 doing this, though I've since fallen off the wagon of lifting.

Count of Monte Cristo was ok

no.

>consuming
Key phrase for audiobook users

sure
i am a consumer
i listen to music, read books and watch films. but i do not compose music, write books or make films.

Ok moron
