I'm in the mood to read a book about culture shock. Any suggestions?

Good recommendations all

I've never read any Mark Twain but the book title alone proves he's good.

Not OP but I was literally thinking about Arthurian Legend when I clicked the thread for obvious reasons.

>shamima, pass me the acid!

if you read one book, just one - read ACYIKAC

God damn
I have tried explaining what she’s saying the the last paragraph to so many people after I went to Hong Kong
Shit is fucking incredible

The Forever War by Joe Haldeman
You may have heard of this one, it's about a space trooper who returns from the star wars to find the entire population of Earth has become gay. Not a joke - that's the story. The entire time dilation thing is just an allegory for the incredible butthurt experienced by US soldiers coming back from Vietnam to find themselves being spat on by filthy barefoot hippies.

>kill communists that were minding their own business
>>these guys are GAY

I am here to inform the soldiers of that time period that: no u.

>less developed country like the United States
>meanwhile Hong Kong is being eclipsed by its authoritarian neighbors and struggling to provide sovereignty and autonomy to its citizens
How are we defining developed again?

Travels With Herodotus, its a travel memoir written by a guy who was a polish journalist in the 60s and 70s. For his first assignments he is sent to India and China, there is a lot of very good culture shock content like this example you've provided. Originally he was just from some rural village in Belarus. There's also a great chapter where he sees Louis Armstrong perform in Sudan to a completely silent crowd (I don't know why but I'll never forget it).

>How are we defining developed again?
in the normal way?

>Check out that fabric, mamajan. Mm-m

You dont understand the level to which my life is a trainwreck lol. I could probably afford the ticket but I dont even have a passport and can barely go to work.

Im still intrigued though if you have some more resources, i read your blog post, it was interesting. Even if you just wanted to explain it more. There was this picture of a walkway in Beijing that I saw years ago that gave me the same feeling of awe at the complexity and how clean and polished everything was. I used to feel a smaller sense of that walking around the business district of Toronto at night, and the walking tunnels beneath the city. The gleaming metal and glass and concrete in the blue hour, the courtyards and statues and strange little parks beneath these enormous towering geometries. I dont explain it well but it always stuck with me.

>it's the most incredible place in the world

how?

Certainly not buy economics, i.e. THE ACTUAL DEFINITION OF THE WORD.

China is technically still 3rd world. They have average wealth 1/3 of the average Americans. And this is after America's average wealth has PLUMMETED of the last decade, and china's has nearly tripled over the same time span.

>"muh trains"

lol

kafka's amerika has been overlooked in this thread.

US is also a 3rd world country. Switzerland, Canada and the UK a properly developed

terrible prose, dishonest and cringe

you can't even spell a 2 letter word properly and you expect us to be convinced by your words?

Culture shock, future shock
Fuck yourself, choke yourself

Useless information occupies every open space inside your skull
You know whats going on every day every night
Everywhere swear you’re so international

Upside down cross on the Jumbotron
Wait up, hold on
Blowing anthrax off my palms
Say what, you’re wrong

Switch stance, face plant
Napalm fire starters
Flatlander, plug puller
Nose dive turbulence chartered

You speak in abbreviations because real life conversation moves too slow
You’re the media’s creation, yeah your free will has been taken and you don’t know
Choke yourself, fuck yourself

Culture shock, future shock
Fuck yourself, choke yourself

Never seen without one hundred
She’s a satanic priestess
Anarchy on ice freak flag flying faceless elitist
Crow on the down low end
Reppin’ Orion’s belt
Atlantis ancient vagina
Getting dusty on the shelf
Enter the pigs don’t get it
No hands I’m shattering jaws
Double nickles on the dime
Fuck glam can lick my balls

Culture shock, future shock
Fuck yourself, choke yourself

Whatchya gonna be when you’re grown young blood?
Gonna be a mindless drone
Won’t ever have to think
No your head’ll be linked directly to your cell phone
The virus is alive, I can see it in your eyes
The infection is full blown

Career killer, double decker packed with suicidal brides
Four armed fury in a filthy dream about splitting your bitches thighs
Enters through unknowing eyes
Touch the key its in your mind
Can’t delete it and soon you’ll find
How bad you need it all the time

Culture shock, future shock
Fuck yourself, choke yourself

Shiva slashin through your flat screen
Is nowhere for you to hide
Strangled by anaconda thumbs to the soundtrack of world genocide
My thoughts tie knots in silver spoons
Vampire on the rise
Punk a chump wit a cunt for brains platoon
In the zone and on the grind

Dead matter disposer from the mountains without peaks
Catch and release
Time released horse capsule swallowed to wake the savage beast

Culture shock, future shock
Fuck yourself, choke yourself

Gotta get them outta here now
Infected act so weird how’d you get it
You’re pathetic
Quarantine the virus

Culture shock, future shock
Fuck yourself, choke yourself

I find this highly erotic

god i wish that was me

is it normal that the first thing that comes in mind when i see op's picture is the three girls having a hardcore footfetish squirt lesbian threesome

see
as a city dweller its immediately apparent when you enter a city that is functioning like a machine. no shit on the streets, pedestrian access intertwined with safe roads, tech built into the infrastrucutre in helpful and intuitive ways

like said before, it's hard to explain, easier to show

hey sry dude. it wasn't my blog post though, I'm just some guy.
