Is the Italian really on a whole another level of brilliance compared to the English translations?

It's just a meme.
Here in Serbia we only have a old translation made by some unknown guy who tried to make some money by doing a quick translation and we're all fine with it. What matters is the content, not what words he uses for "gate"

>muh content

Poetry is much more than just content and even trying to remain true to the meter and rhyme it'll never be the same as reading it in the original language.

Worst possible take. Poetry is all about the cling clang of the words.

What does Dante's inferno have to do with poetry lol? It's literally prose written like a novel

>It's literally prose
Oh no no no, this is why you don't read shit translations

Topkek lad, topkek.

Nothing rhymes in the entire book. THE THING THAT MATTERS THE MOST WHEN IT COMES TO POETRY

You're just embarrassing yourself.

Holy shit this is the most Slavic post I;ve ever seen

Fuckin' Dante... poetry-writing faggot! Piece of shit, motherfucker!

Yes, it's infinitely superior. The innate beauty of Italian coupled with the poetic genius of Dante is enough to make the entire body of English literature look like puerile gibberish. Just compare the first stanza of the Italian to any English translation to see how poetically impoverished English is. Italian, on the other hand, has been the language of poetry for hundreds of years. It's not even worth reading the poem in translation. Would you eat coq au vin if instead of wine literal shit was used? That's what I thought. Fuck English and fuck the barbarian-tongued anglo-saxons. Long live the Mediterranean, long live all things latinate!

Also, you're a retard who doesn't know anything about poetry. I would expect as much from a slav. Your language is already barbarian trash so, in your myopic retardation, you project and assume all other languages must be equally as disgusting, unwieldy and barbaric as your own. Embarrassing!

"Dante’s tercet, or chained tercet, or third rhyme, is the verse used by Dante in the Divine Comedy.

"It is made up of three "endecasillabi" verses (eleven syllables for each verse), of which the first and the third cross between them, while the second rhyme with the first and third of the next triplet
«Per me si va ne la città dolente,
per me si va ne l'etterno dolore,
per me si va tra la perduta gente.

Giustizia mosse il mio alto fattore;
fecemi la divina potestate
la somma sapïenza e 'l primo amore.

Dinanzi a me non fuor cose create
se non etterne, e io etterno duro.
Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate.»"

Too lazy to create wikipedia page in english

fortuna che sono nato a 30km dalla Svizzera e che mi sto specializzando in neurologia fuori dall'Italia

Germanfag here. Do you take Dante as the final boss in Italian literature class in high school?
The last exam has traditionally been on Goethe's Faust at my former school, so I was wondering if it's similar for you guys.

jfc..."translations are good enough for us serbs, so it's fine for everyone else and you don't lose anything by translating"
