Philosophers are basically never well known in their time. They become well known once later academics study their work and academic publishers then begin to print the works.

There's quite a few around today who I think might be considered notable in the future.

John Sallis is one in my opinion. But currently there's a real obsession with analytic philosophy and political philosophy. Inductive Logic is all the rage in universities as is political philosophy which is the most drab and dull area of study there is. So you won't be getting any Nietzsches or Heideggers. Just more fucking John Rawls and Robert Nozick figures bickering over ultimately pointless things. I think the main reason for this is that after Heidegger, philosophers don't know where to go without saying some controversial things. And they're all too afraid to lose their paychecks.

The West's intellectual and artistic well has dried up in the last 50 years or so.

They just don't get marketed you idiot.

name a few, idiot.

Mark Fisher

Name one great mind or philosopher that ever existed.

me

The great philosophers of today are podcasters and such. Joe Rogan is the modern Socrates, for example.

Do you really think that there isn't a single person alive that is philosophically more developed than that of the past? Such an absurd claim ,only because you refuse to research outside your academic recommendations...

KEK

Read Spengler, he explains why
We will never have good phisophers ever again unless our civilization completely collapses

I immersed myself in Zizek's work for years during adolescence until I realised it was all useless obfuscatory bullshit that leads nowhere.

Careerism in academia.

The philosophers of the past were very famous. Socrates, Plato, Aristotle were prominent men in Greece. Epictetus was very influential and one of the best Roman Emperors was a disciple of his.

Oh yeah, what a disciple of stoicism

Hadrian was the student of Epictetus. And regardless of how well he ruled, Epictetus was still a fairly famous guy

Because everything that can be said already has been said. There's literally no new "philosophical" arguments to make. Science has taken over most of the discourse. E.g. Nature vs Nurture - philosophy has exhausted the arguments. Today, this debate is evidenced with genetics, etc.

No, Op made the claim that today we don't have great philosophers, so the question is who is he comparing them with?
Who were those great philosophers in his mind?

He, Badiou, and Habermas are the biggest guys in academia who are currently alive.
