Why do these people who are supposedly so wise and clever always die alone?
Most philosophers never reproduced. Most of them lived and died alone. Reproducing is the most basic purpose of existence, and they didn't even fulfill that. Why is this?
>they realize having kids is bad that's a defective instinct
Jayden White
actually a really good question. the smartest people have basically been incels (or better, volcels.) i think they spend more time to their craft than attending social outings with a partner. also, youre wrong to think that the meaning of life is to be smart and uncover everything. you can lead rewarding life through being a righteous farmer with a family just as not a wealthy unjust king will die bitter and base
Brandon Torres
There are more important things and it doesnt really matter much unless you are a brainlet but Whitehead, Deleuze, Montaigne, and so on were married.
William Watson
nick land is married with kids
Jace Sanders
Family life is time and energy consuming. Had they chosen it instead of philosophy, there would never have been any philosophy to speak of.
Cameron Martin
Should we even trust the "wisdom" of someone who never had kids? Can someone who doesn't have kids even have a realistic view of the world?
I would trust people outside of mainstream society to have the most penetrating insights on it, yes. Stop worshipping biological imperatives.
David Lewis
Most contemporary philosophers are married in my experience. Socrates had a wife, although she was a terrible bitch. Camus and Sartre pulled women like crazy. Russell was married. Wittgenstein had his fair share of boyfriends although he died single. You can study philosophy and do whatever. You're not destined to end up like Nietzsche or Schopenhauer because you own a copy of Plato's Republic.
Henry Myers
The majority of philosophers died alone though
What is "mainstream society" anymore?
There is a gigantic progressive circus of freaks out there today, do they have a "clearer" perspective on the biologically constructive lifestyle (traditional marriage) on account of being "not mainstream"? Not at all, they are far dumber than biologically productive people.
Sebastian Reyes
Becoming a philosopher is the most advanced purpose of existence and no one has fulfilled that besides a handful of individuals spanning thousands of years. I think we can forgive them not having kids.
Samuel Rogers
>There is a gigantic progressive circus of freaks out there today, do they have a "clearer" perspective on the biologically constructive lifestyle (traditional marriage) on account of being "not mainstream"? Not at all, they are far dumber than biologically productive people.
that's the thing, they've become the mainstream. maybe once they did, at least their most self-aware members, but now they certainly do not.
you have to be on the other side of the glass to really know what you're looking at. and maybe, just once, you had to be on the inside, too. that's what made siddhartha the buddha. but I'll always trust society's outsiders over its beneficiaries.
Noah Russell
>I think we can forgive them not having kids. Not necessarily about "forgiving" them, but it raises the question if they are maybe preaching infertility.
Is there a destructive aspect to meditating on the abstract so much, and thinking instead of doing
Austin Kelly
Unironically based. Habing segs and reproducing is for suckers, it takes real cojones to deny in yourself the will to live.
Dylan Barnes
what is truly destructive is the mindless perpetuation of life and the suffering intrinsic to it. look around you and see where that doctrine has led us.
Ethan Turner
Philosophers don't preach.
Nothing's in denial. They pursued the paths they were led on.
Dumbasses who don't read and should get off Yea Forums
nihilism is easy to start and hard to finish. if you can't discover an operational paradigm into which you can reliably toil you settle into functional nihilism and shut off
Matthew Wright
Yeah, he doesn't understand that philosophers are morally neutral. A moral message from a philosopher is either an illusion or just a product of pure objective rationalism, like "1+1=2" or "nazis are bad".
>The majority of philosophers died alone though Have you undertaken a systematic study of every philosopher throughout history to determine this to be true? This is a baseless assertion based on your own preconceived notions, probably derived from some vague romanticisation of a small number of world denying ascetic intellectuals.
>dumb people breed like crazy >why don’t smart people breed Look something has to not work
Connor Robinson
people are terrible investments.
Cooper Baker
Because most of them were ugly, which is what lead them to be introspective.
Hudson Brown
This. I would've never gone to study philosophy even when I was interested in it unless I knew that I would spend most of my adult life being an incel. If I had a girlfriend right now, I would not spend 6-8 hours a day reading or writing.
Kevin Wilson
They're all homosexuals and the historians of the 20th century whitewashed it.
Jace Myers
>Reproducing is the most basic purpose of existence Back to >>>r9k.
Thomas Sullivan
Not brilliant bait if I'm honest.
Ian Kelly
Y'all motherfuckers are projecting. Not every philosopher is a permanent bachelor, and to assume that they are due to ugliness is ridiculous.
Albert Camus was a lady's man. Socrates was married. You do have Schopenhauer and Nietzsche but their loneliness is not because they had their own problems interacting with women.
Asher Cooper
Should we care what some kpop cumbrain thinks about philosophy?
Hudson Smith
Everyone dies alone buddy
Jason Morales
Women are genetically hardwired to only be attracted to
Ethan Nguyen
Too bad you don’t fulfill the muscular part
Jason Rodriguez
They turn to books after failing to get along with other human beings.
Ian Campbell
Haha you quite got me there, indeed I'm actually a 75IQ Arab incel living in London. Upboated sir
To support kids, they would have to get a real job lol
Colton Barnes
Have sex
Tyler Nguyen
This actually made me laugh out loud. Well done, user.
Jace Brown
>implying philosophers are dead You know their names still. No one's going to know yours in a couple centuries' time.
Jaxon Phillips
T. Evolutionary mindset, neck yourself roastie
Joshua Lewis
Of the big ones, I can only think of Aristotle and Marx having kids. I conclude that this is because most great philosophers were closeted, self-hating homosexuals
Alexander Wilson
> Reproducing is the most basic purpose of existence Go away kpop brainlet
Grayson Moore
Because they can't put up living with a normie and spending their life in the company of a normie that will demand all their time. Like you, someone intelligent wouldn't want to live with you.
Brayden Martinez
Plato talks about it in the Symposium. Creative/intelligent people are fulfilled by their creative offspring (their work/art/ideas), while the ignorant masses can only achieve this much sought after fulfillment by having children. He then goes to explain how the former offspring are more permanent and significant than the latter.
Jaxon Myers
But what of Kant? Kierkegaard?
Ethan Jones
>Why do these people who are supposedly so wise and clever always die alone? probably because they're wise and clever
>It makes me highly suspicious of philosophy One man's modus ponens is another man's modus tollens
