what does Yea Forums thing of taoism? is it based or cringe?
What does Yea Forums thing of taoism? is it based or cringe?
it’s crased and bledpilled
Read about it yourself and make up your own mind, you sperg.
It's neither cringe or based
It's true, the way which is cringe is not the true way, and the way which is based is not the true way either.
(Un)based and waypilled
Zhuangzi is based
In your dreams.
chinks will never accept that you can understand the tao, btw.
That's fine because 90% of them can't understand how to not be bugmen.
i thought the tao was not supposed to be understandable
>Zhuangzi
Great lad and actually a great read.
Tao te Ching is on its own pretty inaccessible for the modern non Chinese reader.
Zhuangzi on the other hand has some really interesting parables that read entertaining and engaging.
More like the butterflys dream.
Love the I Ching . It's a great way to make decisions
Ching Chong Ding Dong
Are there any interesting takes on Taoism besides the old masters that I should read?
I Ching has nothing to do with Taoism. What a stupid and ignorant photo
I used an ancient fortune telling book from china and it’s divinations speaking of future failure and misfortune made me feel dreadful and anxiety-ridden.
Not to mention that none of it came true.
WHITEHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>nothing
Wrong. Divinational Taoism uses the I Ching.
Incomprehensible mess of a philosophy. Somehow they mix Parmenides and Heraclitus and hide the paradox behind mysticism. Might be the most miserably servile way to live outside of Cynicism, which at least is consistent in its worldview.
That said the poetry is pretty.
I read that in Bertrand Russell's voice.
Jean Cooper, Ellen Chen
If you want to get into reading more esoteric Taoist texts, the I Ching becomes very important.
When you meet one of them they will agree but say some 1000 chinese have attained the tao, but non chinks will always fail. They are as skeptical of chinks as of westerners tbqh but westerners never can achieve it.
why is the tao te king unachievable to non cchink moderns
b
It is good. The Chuang Tzu and Tao Te Ching are essential reading.
>why is the tao te king unachievable to non cchink moderns
I was more revering to accessibility. Tao te Ching is ancient and translations suffer from several bounds they have to overcome. Even if you have some footing in Mandarin the text needs further reading. When translated the author will have to abandon the prose and try to put into an interpretation he deems correct.
Chink language, especially the older stuff is a lot less accurate but on the other hand a lot more dense than other languages.
Iching is fortune telling, theres some good videos on fortune telling with I ching, you need three coins always on your person.
Tao de ching, buy one either without the faggory poetry that hides the true meaning of the text, or has a dictionary in the back you can use to translate yourself, Very worth while.
Essentially the text splits into Confucius lawful society and Zhuzhanji neetism.
I bought these books, saw the authors comment was half the book and threw them in the bin and bought a bible. You should try it heathen.
Based. Now throw away your bible because half the book is authors comment on Jesus.
Read his collected writings, its 100% nonsensical bullshit.
Taoism is nebulous bullshit. No one knows what the fucking "Way" is and don't even try to define it.
tao te chink lmaooooooooo
One can not know the way by name, they can only follow it
I read the Bible for God, not Jesus. I prefer characters who dont die needless deaths.
Hello fellow traveller
>using coins not wormwood sticks
Why do you want too much yin in your life user?
Tao Te Ching was derived from study of the I Ching. Moderns can't into I Ching.
They never can recapture the wordplay. Some of which contains important meanings.
Zoroastrianism is the only true way
Based
Cringe if you misunderstand it and then appropriate it to justify your mediocrity
Authentic Taoism if based. Pop Taoism is cringe.
You'll know you have the real thing if it's weird as hell and full of clam monsters.
Read Whitehead instead. If you dont know Chinese it is mostly not worth reading translated shit and Whitehead is more articulative and more widely applicable and encompassing
I will remind them.
To seek base is to strive against the Way.
best translation of mao me ming?
>read it in the original text
i'm not learning chinese just for taoism
where is this from? it doesn't sound pop at all
>it doesn't sound pop at all
It isn't. It's the real deal, and it's from here.
Oh sorry I misread your post. Yeah this sounds great, checking it out
Any chinese speakers on Yea Forums? I've been learning chinese for the last 6 months, I'm gonna try reading some childrens books soon
How long did it take you to read classical works?
does anyone wmtn to play Minecraft that would be cool thanks
Go play with some Legos
Chapter 16 (Translation by J. H. McDonald)
If you can empty your mind of all thoughts
your heart will embrace the tranquility of peace.
Watch the workings of all of creation,
but contemplate their return to the source.
All creatures in the universe
return to the point where they began.
Returning to the source is tranquility
because we submit to Heaven’s mandate.
Returning to Heaven’s mandate is called being constant.
Knowing the constant is called ‘enlightenment’.
Not knowing the constant is the source of evil deeds
because we have no roots.
By knowing the constant we can accept things as they are.
By accepting things as they are, we become impartial.
By being impartial, we become one with Heaven.
By being one with Heaven, we become one with Tao.
Being one with Tao, we are no longer concerned about
losing our life because we know the Tao is constant
and we are one with Tao.
Fucking based
Very based, indeed. Although there are some pretty weird mystical practises that have sprung up from taoist thought, like their sexual practices. Not sure if that stuff is just a consequence of the new-age movement, or if there’s any authentic basis to it.
If you mean crazy shit like semen super powers, that's authentic. If you mean meme shit like meditative 10 hour orgasms, that's not authentic.
is tao like the primordial essence in indian thought?
how did they reconcile taoism with buddhism?
primordial non-essence
Jung explains the I Ching in an easily understood way in his Synchronicity essay.
Taoism is a distinctly Right Hand path, and the Cantong Qi states that sexual mystical practices are degenerate.
books for this? i really don’t think it’s a good idea to press on your gouche to force semen to stay in the body during orgasm (termed an ‘injaculation’), but if there’s any actual taoist writings on this, i’d be interested to see their explanation
With practice you can just flex your (kegel?) muscles to hold it in. But then there is no release, which is... disappointing. Especially since that same practice can make it fly over her head.
