Past or present tense? Which do you prefer when reading novels?
Past or present tense? Which do you prefer when reading novels?
Which did you prefer?*
Present, obviously, gives the story immediacy but past makes the story seem more grounded and based in reality.
Present is a meme tense for pseuds.
Nice trips and dubs, though.
Always past. It's easier to maintain and often neater, rhythmically.
"I walk up to the door and ring the bell. He opens the door and greets me."
"I walked up to the door and rang the bell. He opened the door and greeted me."
future
Yeah, this.
This is actually incredibly interesting. Are there any beautiful present tense sentence examples?
No particular examples I know of or can think of. Past tense sounds better because of the frequent repetition of the -ed ending. In present tense, verbs mostly end with either s which is not a resolving sound like -ed, or have no common ending letter at all which means there's no natural rhythm. This is just my theory but when I started writing seriously I realized present tense was a nightmare to read in any extended form.
>autism
I've been writing in present because I can't make it interesting in past, always feels clunky. But not many people read my shit anyway
Inspired by Bret Easton Ellis
You know I'm right fatso
Past. I'm not sure why. I believe that most novels which I've read have been written in the past tense.
write greentext in present and in past tense and you'll find out how wrong you are
I'm talking about books, not greentext stories on a korean napkin hoarding forum.
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha
future conditional, no doubt about it
books are dead, nigger. greentext is where it is
third person future perfect. no exceptions.
"He will have walked to the door and the bell will have rung. The door will be opened by him and he shall be greeted by him."
Future tense
This post made me laugh so hard I started coughing and now taste blood, I don't know why that's so funny. The thought of some autist writing an entire book like that
