Is there a Christian heresy that retains all standard doctrine except for belief in an afterlife?

You mean like, they believe in absolute nothingness after death
more or less. no "heaven" as popularly conceived is what i mean
Basic adherence to Christian moral principles but without belief in an afterlife? So you mean modern atheism.
Not that I am aware of. Why?
This
Pro-tip: Christianity is atheistic and blasphemous
Ha! very good, my friend, very good. but is there a system which maintains the existence of the Biblical god while also denying the existence of an afterlife?
curiosity; both about church history and the nature of man's belief in god. i am a theist (cannot explain why, other than to say that it is a "feeling" i have), but i have never been able to accept the idea of life after death. weird, i know
That is pretty weird considering most religions accept it in some form. It seems pretty obvious to me that consciousness can't emerge from a vacuum or recede into one. Life after death seems pretty clear cut to me, not that I would mind if it wasn't the case. Total extinction sounds comfy, but is alas rather irrational.
i also dont really believe in an afterlife, even though i am still a christian. just to to church and stop moping man, whats the point of getting hung up on transient feelings. everything could be obliterated tomorrow and none of your hang ups would've mattered
You want a christianity without Christ, Jesus reduced to a sort of “moral ideal”. Basic modernism/liberalism. There’s a bunch of these people infesting the faith today. It’s not christianity, just humanism that appropriates some lingo for demonic subversion. Christus Victor is the central figure of the christian gospel. If God didn’t take on human flesh in the person of Christ, died so that he could destroy death and crush the tomb from within, if he did not rise to conquer death and sin to give us life in eternity, then christianity is nothing.
thank you for the kind response. i agree that my position is irrational, but my schizo tendencies seem to be what dictates my faith. my view of consciousness differs from yours
good advice, man. these questions dont come from a place of despair, though - i have found a strong sense of purpose in my life and reasons to keep my faith. i only wondered if anyone from history shared my peculiarity; i should have made that clearer
thanks, C.S. always good to hear from you
we're in the same boat user! i would recommend pedro de ribadeneyra's tratado de la tribulación, but i don't think it's been translated. it helped me a lot.
thank you for the recommendation, my friend. if it's in Spanish, i'll be able to read it. best to you
basado e hispanopastillado
sorry you're forever trapped here
Do more research on Christianity. Heaven is a more modern idea. Heaven on Earth was what was more commonly believed.
i suspected this. thank you for pointing me in the right direction. i will do more research before asking stilted questions in the future
Paul talks about being caught up to the third heaven
Yes, Catholicism.
How so
>is there a system which maintains the existence of the Biblical god while also denying the existence of an afterlife?
The Sadducees, supposedly, although the closest extant tradition (Karaite Judaism) does believe in an afterlife.
You honestly might want to look into general arguments for the existence of an afterlife, they're far from specific to Christianity or "Abrahamism".
This is literally a Jewish belief.
>Heaven is a more modern idea.
No, it isn't.
Jesus was a Jew you dumb poltard
All the Desert Fathers talked about sotierology. It was their primary focus. It doesn't get much older than that.
