If you want to understand this scene get "The New Right" by Michael Malice. He defines the new right as a loose association of ideologies connected by their opposition to progressivism. The alt right is the subsection of the new right that views race as the most (or one of the most) important issues in contemporary politics.

The "alternative right", which is where the term came from can only be defined according to what they are an alternative to, which is mainstream American conservatism.

Conservatism is for free markets, the alt-right is economic interventionist and even supports universal health care.

Conservatism is de facto for open borders, the alt-right is for immigration restriction and deportation of illegal aliens.

Conservatism is militarist and interventionist in foreign affairs, specially when it concerns the interests of Israel, the alt-right is pacifist, isolationist and anti-Zionist.

Conservatism is climate change skeptic in the name of energy industry interests, the alt-right is environentalist and ties the interest of conservation with the interests of the nation

And so it goes.
